An adventure/action hybrid. You explore rooms, solve puzzles and occasionally shoot at enemies. Instead of a single character, you switch between members of a squad of four - all of whom happen to look the same. They share one inventory, so when, for example, one of them gets trapped in a room and another one finds a remote control at a different location, you can switch back to the trapped one and use the remote to open the door. It's really weird.
The setting is a bit strange as well. You are sent to a remote village that has apparently been destroyed by extraterrestrial invaders. There are still a few survivors left in the village. Most of them act oblivious to the armed green men who now roam the place. Then there are bizarre tonal shifts in the dialogues of player characters: Sometimes they express shock at seeing brutal acts of violence, only to crack fourth wall breaking jokes a few lines later. Tonally, this game is all over the place.
While the intro movie looks amateurish at best, the ingame graphics are actually pretty nice. They are drawn in a similar style as Wasted Dreams, another game by the same developer. Puzzles are similar to other adventure games and most often not too obtuse. Dialogues and characterisations are adequate, but not too engaging.
Code name Hell Squad, while certainly odd, is surprisingly good considering it was released when most developers and distributors had long left the Amiga market.

Only ever played a demo, but the graphics were all wonky and did not give the right perspective killing any addictivity. It did look promising but I would go for Wasted Dreams any day of the week over this, which speaking of, it may have been better for DDE to have concentrated on getting Wasted Dreams 2 finished rather than this, oh well.

Vulcan Software aimed to release this game around 1998 under the name Hellpigs. However, Vulcan lost interest in the Amiga market and the developers Digital Dreams Entertainment released it in 2000.
