Clyde Tombaugh Day celebration planned at the Las Cruces Museum of Nature and Science

A summer of special events at city museums honoring the life and work of Pluto's discoverer, Clyde Tombaugh, begins with "Beyond Pluto," opening with a reception at the Branigan Cultural Center during the Downtown Ramble from 5 to 7 p.m. today.

LAS CRUCES - Tombaugh Day, the annual celebration of the life and work of astronomer Clyde Tombaugh, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Feb. 10 at the Museum of Nature and Science.

The Museum of Nature and Science will host continuous, free, hands on activities for all ages focusing on the discoveries of local astronomer Clyde Tombaugh. The event will begin with a welcome session and special presentation by the Tombaugh family at 10am in the museum’s classroom. The NMSU Astronomy Department and the Astronomical Society of Las Cruces will be on site with solar telescopes giving visitors the opportunity to safely view the sun.

Admission to the Museum of Nature and Science is free. The museum is located at 411 N. Main St.and is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  For additional information, visit las-cruces.org/museums or call 575-522-3120.
