Louis Carrière was born into an artist family. He took courses in industrial aviation design and eventually became an architect. He worked with his former teacher, Monsieur Daubèze at his engineering firm Latécoère.
He also pursued a career as an illustrator and comic artist. He began an association with Félix Buffière's publishing house Les Remparts, and started making illustrations for their collection Junior. He has illustrated children's books between 1946 and 1952. Carrière also illustrated novel covers and comic stories for Rempart's subdivion SEP. Among the comic titles he worked for were 'Banga' (1961-72), 'Urka' (1970-72) and 'Banko' (1975).
Besides his work for Les Éditions des Remparts, he was associated with the Toulouse-based publishing houses S.T.A.E.L. and Photochrom. Carrière also illustrated postcards and made paintings. He eventually returned to engineering, working for Marcel Dassault's studio in Toulouse.
