SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - The City of Scottsbluff has some tips for residents before it accepts yard waste.

The yard waste collection season started on the first week of April and would like to help people with making it easier for the city to collect and for residents. The City will accept any shrubbery, tree branches, grass clippings, garden or flower bed debris, corn stocks, tumbleweeds, and any other forms of yard waste.

The City just asks if people dispose of tree branches, the branches are cut and stick no more than 12 inches out of the top to the bin, as well as if people dispose of tumbleweeds to have heavier items to the bottom, and to make sure all grass clippings have no dirt.

“If you put tumbleweeds in you should put something that’s heavy on the bottom to push it out as the truck is dumping them they tend to get stuck on the sides and not want to come out,” Environmental Services Department Head Anthony Harris said.

The City asks people to have their bins out before 6 a.m. and if a bin is missed because it was out to late, the city will charge a fee to pick up the bin. To help people make sure yard waste bins are out in time the City has created an app to help remind people. More information about the app can be found here.

If people have questions about yard waste collections, the Scottsbluff Sanitation Department can be contacted at 308-630-0985.
