Cameroun – Port de Douala

Port of Douala, Cameroon

From June 2009 up to June 2014, Jan De Nul executed dredging works in the access channel to the port of Douala, Cameroon's economic lifeline. The port of Douala is located in the estuary of the river Wourri, which explains the continuous accumulation of mangrove sludge in the access channel.  To keep the access to the port free, the most inland and critical 18 km of the 40-km access channel was deepened to and continuously maintained at a depth of -7.5 m. In all, the TSHD Amerigo Vespucci and the TSHD De Laperouse dredged 25 million m³ of sludge, which they subsequently dumped at the offshore deposit area.
