USA Network is venturing into the dream state.
The NBCUniversal-owned cable network has handed out a pilot order to drama Falling Water, co-created and co-written by late Homeland Emmy winner Henry Bromell, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Falling Water was co-written and co-created by Bromell and his Brotherhood and Rubicon cohort Blake Masters. The duo co-wrote the script before Bromell’s unexpected passing in 2013 following a heart attack. The prolific and beloved writer-producer was 65.

From Universal Cable Productions and executive produced by The Walking Dead‘s Gale Anne Hurd and her studio-based Valhalla banner, Falling Water is described as a mind-bending thriller intersecting reality and unconscious thoughts. The drama, which is being exec produced and directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later), tells the story of three unrelated people who slowly realize that they are dreaming separate parts of a single common dream. Each is on a quest for something that can only be found in their subconscious — a missing girlfriend, a son, a way to communicate with a catatonic mother. However, the more they begin to use the dream world as a tool to advance their hidden agendas, they realize that their visions are trying to tell them something and that their very real lives are at stake.
“People have always been fascinated by the subconscious and Falling Water explores that topic in very unique and unexpected ways,” said Jackie de Crinis, exec vp original series at USA Network. “In this story, the immensely talented and prolific storytellers, Blake and Henry, have created an innovative thriller and compelling vehicle to bring the subject of dreams to television.”
Falling Water is USA’s first pilot order of its new development season. The cabler still has drama Queen of the South in contention from its last class, which produced series orders Colony, Mr. Robot and Complications. (Pilots Stanistan and Evil Men were both passed over.) Elsewhere, USA is developing a TV version of Mark Wahlberg feature Shooter, which has a heavy penalty attached if it does not go to pilot.
For Hurd, meanwhile, the drama marks her latest foray at a USA pilot after the cabler developed and passed on sci-fi entry Horizon. For her part, she also has Syfy series order Hunters in addition to AMC’s The Walking Dead and its companion series, the latter of which was picked up this week for two seasons.
