Can’t keep up with what’s been going on in the social media world? Fret not. Here, a gathering of what stars, artists and brands have been up to this week on social media.
Scrunchies Are Back?
Mansur Gavriel says so. In designers Floriana Gavriel and Rachel Mansur’s fall 2017 presentation (Where they showed coats! Lots of coats! Match them to your bag!), some models had their hair pulled back in coordinating scrunchies. But will they ever really be back in style? The JW Anderson fall 2014 campaign made the scrunchie a top priority; Chanel and Missoni occasionally offer versions of the hair tie; and Uma Thurman tied her hair back with one at the L.A. premiere of Kill Bill: Vol. 1.
2014 marked a brief rise in the popularity of the scrunchie, thanks to Katalina Sharkey de Solis, wife of designer Ashley Hicks, and Elle‘s Ruthie Friedlander’s expertly curated @ScrunchiesOfInstagram, which was chock-full of scrunchie imagery taken from everywhere from the pages of Vogue to Full House. “In the movie [Heathers], the scrunchie, so ubiquitous in the ’80s and early ’90s, was a sign of power,” de Solis told The New York Times.
On Sunday, after Mansur Gavriel’s NYFW presentation, jewelry designer Roxanne Assoulin posted a Sex and the City screenshot of Berger delivering his famous line to Carrie: “A lot of New York women wear them.” Kate Young, who styled the show, posted a photo of the Mansur scrunchies on Instagram. A debate was instantly sparked in the comments section: Was this major stylist to chic stars like Michelle Williams and Natalie Portman endorsing scrunchies? Yes. Verdict? Do your do however you want to do it.
Helen Mirren and Margot Robbie Wear Glossier Cosmetics at TIFF
The millennial-favorite social media makeup brand Glossier landed more famous faces on its roster at the Toronto Film Festival. This isn’t the first time that Glossier products have made red-carpet moments happen; Chrissy Teigen, Taraji P. Henson and Reese Witherspoon have trusted the brand with their famous faces.
Dame Helen Mirren revealed a glowing complexion, proving the makeup brand is all-inclusive. Mirren had her skin prepped with Glossier’s Priming Moisturizer, $22, followed by Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint in Light and Medium, $26. Makeup artist Debra Ferullo blended the darker shade on the actress’ cheekbones, hairline, temples and jawline. The light shade was blended everywhere else on the face. The final touch was mixing both shades together, blending and applying.
Margot Robbie also used Glossier products at TIFF. The actress famously dished to Elle UK that she prefers Bepanthen, a nipple cream, on her lips. Looks like now, she happily could make the switch to Glossier’s Balm Dotcom.
Candice Bergen Is Painting Handbags
Candice Bergen was trending all over social media today after revealing that she once went on a date with Donald Trump — and that he was “a douche.” Aside from acting, the Home Again star has another talent: painting handbags. Depending on the complexity of your design, for $1,000 and up, you can have the iconic actress personalize your Goyard, Hermes or Louis Vuitton bag with your favorite animal or food. Who wouldn’t want a Saint Laurent clutch with a taco painted on it?
