NEW YORK – Rupert Grint, best known to the world as Ron Weasley in the decade-long Harry Potter film franchise, will make his Broadway debut in the fall in the revival of Terrence McNally‘s It’s Only a Play.
He joins previously announced castmembers Matthew Broderick, Nathan Lane, F. Murray Abraham, Stockard Channing, Megan Mullally and Micah Stock in the limited-engagement production, which officially opens Oct. 9 at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre, following previews.
STORY Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane to Reteam on Broadway
Grint will play acclaimed young theater director Frank Finger in the 1986 comedy, which is set at a neophyte Broadway producer’s Manhattan townhouse during the opening-night party for a nervous playwright’s latest work. Broderick stars as the writer, with Lane as his backbiting best friend, a resentful television actor secretly rooting for him to fail.
Tom Kirdahy, Roy Furman and Ken Davenport are lead producers on the revival, which will be directed by Jack O’Brien. The show marks the 20th Broadway production for McNally, who was nominated for a best play Tony this year for his most recent work, Mothers and Sons.

Grint made his West End stage debut last year in a revival of Jez Butterworth‘s Mojo. His longtime Harry Potter castmate Daniel Radcliffe has become something of a regular on Broadway, starring in Equus in 2008, in the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying in 2011, and currently, in The Cripple of Inishmaan.
