McCLAIN'S LAW: TV CAST: JAMES ARNESS and MARSHALL COLT
Arness, in his rare non-Western role, and his young police partner are shown in street clothes.
Photograph signed: "Best Wishes/Jim Arness", "All the best,/Marshall/Colt". B/w, 7x9. McClain's Law, starring former Gunsmoke hero James Arness as an "old school" police detective, aired on NBC during the 1980-1981 season. Marshall Colt co-starred as his young, "by the book" partner. JAMES ARNESS (b. 1923), the older brother of actor Peter Graves, is best known for his role as Marshal Dillon on the long-running Western drama Gunsmoke (1955-1974). The role was first offered to Arness' friend and mentor, John Wayne, who pushed for Arness being cast in the part. Arness also played Zeb Macahan in the M-G-M TV series, How the West Was Won (1978-1979), and he starred as Jim McClain on McClain's Law (1981-1982). He was castas the menacingly glowing space alien, described by one character as "an intellectual carrot", in the cult SF film The Thing (1951). MARSHALL COLT (b. 1948), "Harry Gates" on McClain's Law, had another one-season starring role as an IRS agent on Lottery (1983-1984). He made TV guest appearances, mostly Westerns and crime series, from 1976 (The Streets of San Francisco) to 1995 (Walker, Texas Ranger), and was cast in a few feature films (North Dallas Forty, Flowers in the Attic). Today, with a PhD in psychology, he is a marriage and family counselor in San Diego. Slightly creased at corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
