director Fred Zinnemann (1907-1997) ranks with Billy Wilder as one of America's
two greatest expatriate directors. Arriving in the US in 1929 as a camera man,
Zinnemann made B movies in the 1940s before hitting the big time with The
Search in 1948. He won Best Director Oscars for From Here to
Eternity (1957) and A Man for All Seasons (1966), and two more for
short subjects. He scored additional Oscar nominations for The Search,
High Noon (1951), The Nun's Story (1959), The Sundowners
(1960) and Julia (1977). His other noteworthy film directing credits
include The Member of the Wedding (1952), Oklahoma (1955),
Behold a Pale Horse (1964) and The Day of the Jackal (1973). Fine
condition.
