Trained by the greatest French sculptors of the era, such as Alexandre Falguière and Jean-Léon Gérôme, duchesse d'Uzès developed into one of the finest sculptors in Europe. She presented her sculptures under the pseudonym Manuella, perhaps because she wanted to disassociate herself from the criticism she may have inured from her contemporaries in the male-dominated field of art. She authored dozens of novels under the same pseudonym.

Anne provided massive financial backing for General Georges Boulanger and his Orléanist political movement. Former French Presidents Valéry Giscard d'Estaing and Jacques Chirac have all been classified as Orléanist adherents.

In 1931 she received decoration as an Officer of the Légion d'honneur. Created by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in 1802, it is the highest the order of merit chartered to recognise outstanding individual contribution to national welfare. As the current head of state government, François Hollande has been Grand Master of the Legion since 2012.

We share vicomte Aymery IV de Rochechouart (1070 - 1190) as a direct ancestor. He was one of the knight commanders of the First Crusade who conquered Jerusalem in 1099.

The House of Rochechouart is the most ancient noble lineage in French history. The dynasty was founded during the 9th century by Count Fulcoald of Rouergue. He was a loyal supporter of Charles the Bald, agnatic grandson of Charlemagne. Charles rewarded him with the title of vicomte de Limoges in 876.

Established in 980, viscount de Rochechouart is the second oldest vicomte title in French history. The following are other titles of nobility bestowed upon the House of Rochechouart since then:

-Marquis of Montpipeau, by letters patent of Louis XIII
-Duc of Mortemart, by letters patent of Louis XIV (1650)
-Peer of France, by letters patent of Louis XIV (1663)
-Prince of Tonnay-Charente, by an accord of Louis XIV
-Comte of Limoges, by an accord of king Louis XIV (1661)
-Duc of Vivonne, by letters patent of Louis XIV (1668) in favor of Louis Victor de Rochechouart de Mortemart
-Grand d'Espagne, 1st class (1701)
-Duc of Rochechouart, par lettres patentes de 1753
-Peer of France, by the ordinance of 4 June 1814, confirmed as a hereditary title in the ordinance of 17 August 1815
-Marquis, hereditary peer by the ordinance of 31 August 1817

The prestigious title and position of Peer of France was held by only a few of the highest-ranking members of the French nobility. In 1663 Louis XIV bestowed the hereditary title to Gabriel de Rochechouart de Mortemart, 1st Duke of Mortemart (father of Françoise Athénaïs de Rochechouart, the monarch's primary mistress). Louis later made him governor of Paris and Île de France in 1669. The title of Peer of France was effectively abolished forever after the French Revolution.

The last Rouchechouart to hold the title of Peer of France prior to the French Revolution was Roman Catholic Cardinal Jean-François-Joseph de Rochechouart (1708 - 1777). He participated in the Papal Enclave that elected Pope Clement XIV in 1769.

Anne was the first woman issued a European driver's license. Less than a year later she became the first woman ever to receive a traffic citation for speeding in 1899. Probably sometime thereafter she was elected as president of the Aeroclub Ladies' Committee.

The premier peerage in France today is ducal-peerage of Uzès. Since established as such in the early 17th century (as a result of the beheading of the 4th duc de Montmorency in 1632), it represents the ducal Champions of France, first and foremost. Uzès is the traditional seat of government. The Duchy is the official residence of Jacques de Crussol, 17th Duke of Uzès. The castle is a popular tourist attraction and cultural center in the region.

Dhuoda, countess of Agen, wrote Liber Manualis while exiled in Uzès by her husband Bernard, Duke of Septimania. Intended as a moral and ethical guide for her son, it's rich in historical accounts of the era, so much so, she's regarded as the first woman historian in world history.
