Description:

The name of this wonderful cactaceae comes from the Greek and literally means "ruffled thorns", in reference to its strongly wild appearance. The stem assumes, with the growth a cylindrical posture, reaching even 20-30 cm of height and maintaining a smaller diameter. The cactus is completely hidden by the pleasant swirl of its thick spines: rather short and thin, well straight and with multiple colors, generate real bands of color along the plant depending on the period of growth. Just from these well separated stripes comes the common name of "Texas rainbow cactus", in similitude with "Arizona rainbow cactus" (Echinocereus rigidissimus), in which, however, the colourations are more bright and daring. Around the end of spring this exemplar will bring to your locations a breath of joy thanks to giant flowers on the notes of a bright yellow.

Plant care:

It likes an exposure to full sun in rather airy locations.

It is preferable to keep it at mild temperatures and never below 8 °C, for this reason it is recommended to shelter it during the winter period.

Water moderately but only when the soil is completely dry. It is enough to water the plant once a week in spring and summer and suspend watering completely in winter.

A medium porous substrate, consisting of soil mixed with sand, which makes it well draining. is an optimal solution.

They do not need frequent fertilization, it is sufficient to dilute the fertilizer with watering once a year.
