Floyrac Castle is located in the town of Onet-le-Château, in Aveyron, 4 km north of Rodez.
It was erected in 1670 in a classical style, consisting of a main building with two pavilions at the corners and a third in the middle of the southern facade. It has a Mansard roof.
It was the Cassan family who had it built in place of a medieval building which was the seat of a seigniory from the 13th century. From that time, the estate also had an agricultural vocation.
Although ennobled after the purchase of charges, the owners whose arms are still visible on the finely crafted gate that gives access to the estate end up selling it at auction in 1886. Are then included in the ownership of the installations for the manufacture of cheese, but also a large livestock (500 ewes, 6 pairs of oxen and 4 cows) and 359 hectares of meadows and agricultural land.
During the Second World War, the association for social assistance to the army set up a holiday center in the castle for the children of soldiers from the occupied zone. Then monitoring courses are organized for the staff who have to supervise the summer camps.
Nowadays, the castle is owned by the Aveyron Departmental Council and houses the Departmental Children's Home.
The estate is not open to the public but the noble silhouette of the building, protected as a historical monument, can mark out a stroll through this characterful village. Information on +33 5 65 75 76 77.
