Located in the town of Montpeyroux, the castle of Matecoulon was in the 16th century the property of the brother of Michel de Montaigne, Bertrand-Charles de Montaigne. The set underwent many transformations in the fittings and decorations during the 19th century.
Classified as a Historic Monument for its facades and roofs and listed for the rest, the Château de Matecoulon is in the form of a U-shaped main building confined by four round corner towers. On the ground floor, visitors can discover segmental arched bays alternating with semicircular bays.
