María Antonieta de las Nieves has been portraying the beloved TV character La Chilindrina for more than 40 years and she has no plans to stop.

She told Fox News Latino recently that she wants to keep playing La Chilindrina for as long as she can – forever, even!

“I have been doing La Chilindrina for 44 years, and I’m so happy,” she said. “I hope people need me and can see me for 20 more years.”

Although [Chespirito and I] didn’t see each other, our hearts were together.

The 64-year-old Mexican actress, who broke into the limelight with “El Chavo del Ocho” alongside comedian Roberto Gómez Bolaños, who was better known as Chespirito, said she has never gotten tired of waking up and getting into costume – it’s just part of who she is.

“I want to use these clothes forever,” she told FNL. “It’s easy clothes. It’s easy makeup. I love to be La Chilindrina.”

She continued: “[‘El Chavo del Ocho’] will transcend everybody. It will be forever.”

De las Nieves also spoke about Chespirito passing away nearly a year ago. She said it was hard for her, despite their friendship having been strained at the time of his death.

“I didn’t know what to say to the people, to the children. It’s very hard,” she said. “I loved him very much and he loved me very much. Although we didn’t see each other, our hearts were together.”
