French Playwright. Today he is considered the Father of Modern Farce, a precuesor to vaudeville. Works like "An Absolute Turkey" and "A Flea In Her Ear" bordered on the absurd but were wildly popular then as well as for years after his death He was the son of Ernest Feydeau, a noted writer and scholar who encouraged his son to write, and Lodzia Zelewka. In 1889 he married Marie Anne Carolus Duran, the daughter of a wealthy portrait painter. The couple had 2 children and divorced in 1916. Three years later he contracted syphilis which led to mental illness and he died at the age of 58 in a sanatorium.
