Sophia Harris crowned Miss Global Australia 2017

Sophia Harris bested 25 beautiful and strong contenders before walking away with the coveted title of Miss Global Australia 2017 at QT Gold Coast. As the winner, she will be flying to Cambodia in November for the finale.

The 23 year old Sophia Harris is from Tallebudgera, Queensland. Although born in Australia, her family is English. She completed her schooling in St. Andrews College and is currently enrolled in Griffith University, studying Primary Education.

The victorious beauty queen has several titles under her name. She was Miss Gold Coast Showgirl 2012, Miss Gold Coast Surf Girl 2012, Miss South East Queensland 2013, and Miss Universe Australia Queensland 2014.

For the Miss Global Australia pageant, Sophia said that the selection and pageant round were fierce. They were asked to give opinion on matters related to environmental issue.

The pageant included 5 rounds, namely swimwear, evening wear, national costume, photogenic face, and community involvement. As for her national costume, she got help from primary and year one students from the school where she did her work experience. Students created designs resembling Australia’s famous beached and the Commonwealth colours since the games would be held in Australia next year.

Prior to her crowning, she said “If I win I will have a platform to make a difference in the world and the opportunity to be a role model.” After her crowning, Sophie was joyous about flying to Bali to closely work with the competition’s sponsors.
