Android 21's 'human template' has been made canon in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and we finally have a name for her

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the follow up movie to Dragon Ball Super: Broly, will be seeing an English dub release in movie theaters on August 19. Of course, Japanese audiences have already had plenty of time to see the movie for themselves.

The main antagonists of this movie are the remnants of the Red Ribbon army, which includes Magenta, the son of Commander Red, and Dr. Hedo, the grandson of Dr. Gero. During a brief scene in the movie, there is a direct reference to Dragon Ball FighterZ's only original character that revealed some interesting new details about her.

As we learned in Dragon Ball FighterZ, Android 21's original "human template" was heavily implied to be the wife of Dr. Gero and mother of Gevo, who are basically Android 20 and Android 16 respectively. Dialogue within the game reveals small snippets of backstory about the human that Android 21 was based off of.

However, it's important to understand that Android 21 herself isn't the same person as the human template. In fact, it's later revealed that Android 21 is technically only around 10 years of age despite her appearance.

We're never explicitly told the name of Android 21's human template in Dragon Ball FighterZ, but it was finally revealed to be "Vomi" in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. This is briefly shown when Carmine, second-in-command of the hidden Red Ribbon Army, presents a video presentation to Magenta that shows the Dr. Gero family tree.

The family tree presented in the video presentation reveals that Dr. Hedo is the grandson to Dr. Gero and Vomi, as well as the nephew of Gevo. Though Android 21 herself has yet to make an appearance in official Dragon Ball lore, her human template was made canon through this one scene.

Of course, it's been mentioned that Vomi is "Dr. Gero's long deceased wife" and that "Vomi died long before Dr. Gero."

Fans familiar with how Akira Toriyama, creator of the Dragon Ball series, likes to name characters might be able to guess what Vomi's name is based off of. Indeed, those who think that "Vomi" sounds a lot like "vomit" have already figured it out.

It's widely speculated that Dr. Gero's name is a pun derived from the Japanese word "gero." This essentially translates as the sound that someone makes when they throw up.

Gevo, Dr. Gero's deceased son that became the human template for Android 16, follows a similar naming convention. The Japanese word "gevo" is essentially used to describe someone who is vomiting or spewing.

Meanwhile, it's speculated that Dr. Hedo, the newest member added to Dr. Gero's family tree as of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, has a bit of a pun of his own. "Hedo" is potentially based on a Japanese word used for anti-vomiting medicine.

While it hasn't been directly confirmed that Vomi's name is based on the English word "vomit," it does seem fairly likely considering her relationship to Dr. Gero, Dr. Hedo, and Gevo.

With Vomi now made canon in Dragon Ball lore, perhaps we'll someday get an official storyline or movie that also features Android 21's story. We'll just have to wait and see if things really play out that way.
