Pachypodium geayi is a tree in the Apocynaceae family. A native to Madagascar. Some common names are Elephant's Foot or Madagascar Palm. Not to be confused with Pachypodium lamerei, this species has a light pink mid-rib, and the leaves are thinner. It is also a slower grower. It can grow to 15 feet tall and 12 feet wide. The branches are succulent-like, covered with spines in groups of 3. The blue-green leaves grow on top of the stems. The flowers are a cream color 1-2 inches in diameter. They are in bloom from late winter until early summer. A drought-tolerant tree that is suitable for a xeriscaping full sun to a partially shady location. Zones 9-11

Germination

Soak seeds in warm water for 24 hours. Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover with soil. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover with plastic and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
