M. louisae is one of the smaller cactus species. It is notable for its extremely large flowers that are often larger than the stem. The flower is white, pale yellow, or light pink, sometimes with a darker midstripe. It is usually a single stem with light and dark brown spines, one of which one is hooked. It commonly grows only to 1.5" in height and 1" in diameter, but under the right conditions it can grow to 2.5" tall and 1.5" wide.

M. louisae is one of the easiest cacti to raise from seed, and two-year-old plants flower readily. Give it lots of sun, and grow in a well-drained mineral soil mix. Water regularly during the growing season only after soil has dried completely. In winter keep dry and above freezing.

Germination of cactus seeds is about timing, temperature, quality of seeds, cleanliness, and establishing a technique for sowing. Some species have a higher germination rate, and/or a lower germination time than others. For that reason a specific success rate can't be guaranteed.
