This is the beautiful West Texas rainbow cactus with large showy flowers, which may be shades of pink, orange, yellow, or red (but only one flower color per plant). It is a generally solitary cylindrical stem, but sometimes it has as many as 20 branches. Spines may be all white, or with bands of varying colors such as pink, tan, russet, reddish, or brown. Water plant when soil dries during the growing and blooming season, Use very well-drained soil mix with plenty of grit, perlite, pumice, or decomposed granite. Prefers bright sunlight and withstands temperature down to 10F. Keep dry during winter dormancy.

Germination of cactus seeds is about timing, temperature, quality of seeds, cleanliness, and establishing a technique for sowing. Some species have a higher germination rate, and/or a lower germination time than others. For that reason a specific success rate can't be guaranteed .
