Martha E. Lundh, 82 of Dubuque passed away Friday, September 4, 2015 at home surrounded by family.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 9 at the Church of the Nativity. Friends may call from 5 -8 p.m., Tuesday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 John F Kennedy Road where a wake service will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Martha was born on December 31, 1932, in Pleasant Plain, Iowa the daughter of Harry and Helena (Lahr) Lamansky.
She married Alvin Lundh on Aug. 27, 1956 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in East Pleasant Plain, Iowa. He preceded her in death on February 26, 2012.
Martha was passionate about teaching. She was an early reading teacher for the Dubuque Community Schools. She had been a teacher for 39 years, retiring in 1998. In recent years, she continued teaching by volunteering at Eisenhower School .
Martha loved quilting. Many of her recent projects involved quilts made for people who had recently lost loved ones. Her customers would often bring in collections of t-shirts that she would cut out and quilt. Martha also loved playing cards. One of her many joys was when she was able to bid a loner in Euchre. When she was serious about having fun playing cards, she played bridge and was in several groups around town. She will be dearly missed by family and card players alike.
Surviving are her sons, Paul (Cindy), and their son, Ethan, John (Larissa) and their 3 children, Zoey, Ellie and Henry, Matt (Fiance Alice Pearson) and his son, William, and Joseph (Kristen) and their daughters, Stella and Amelia; siblings, Roy (Beverly) Lamansky and Florence Paarman; brother-in-law, Norm Bissell; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, her son in infancy, "Baby" John; and siblings, 2nd LT Joseph Lamansky, Mary (Peck), Francis Lamansky, Sr. Mary Josephus Lamansky, Charles Lamansky, Rosie (Bissell), and Josephine Lamansky. Joseph, Mary, and Francis were children of father Harry's first marriage to Gertrude (Kaska) Lamansky who passed away in 1920.
