About this product

Product Information

Sit back, relax, and enjoy hours of classic gameplay wherever you go. Double Dragon for Nintendo Game Boy is a portable version of an arcade and NES classic. Enjoy lots of sideways-scrolling action and fight enemies as you complete your mission. Use weapons and martial arts techniques to win your battles. In Double Dragon for Nintendo Game Boy, you play as Billy Lee, a martial arts warrior who fights through the city streets with his twin brother, Jimmy. When Billy’s girlfriend, Marian, is kidnapped by a street gang called the Black Warriors, the two martial arts warriors team up to save her. Throughout the game, you take Billy into battle with gang members and rival martial arts warriors as he and Jimmy search for Marian. Double Dragon is an action adventure game that features classic gameplay elements, such as sideways facing characters and four-directional movement. Most of the gameplay features beat ’em up action, but you can use knives and baseball bats in some battles. You obtain most of your weapons through winning fights with enemies. As you win fights, you advance through the game. You have three lives in total, but you can win more each time you collect 20,000 points. The gameplay is challenging enough that most gamers do not make it to the final stages in a couple of hours. The levels get progressively more challenging as you progress towards the final level, and the final level itself is a difficult and enjoyable fight. The controls are easy to use, so you can dive straight into playing this fun and exciting game. Double Dragon for Nintendo Game Boy features a single-player mode and multiplayer mode. In single-player mode, you play as Billy and work your way through the game alone. You can use a Game Link cable to connect two Game Boy consoles and play the game in multiplayer mode. Multiplayer mode lets you enter tournament battles with your friends. Players control Jimmy and Billy, who fight enemies such as Abobo. Double Dragon was first released as an arcade game in Japan in 1987. Its publisher, Technos Japan, released a version for NES games systems following the success of the arcade version. There are also versions and sequels available for other games systems such as Atari 7800 Commodore 64, Super NES, Master System, Amiga, Sega Genesis, and Game Gear. A remake appeared in 2003 for the Gameboy Advance called Double Dragon Advance. Several other remakes have appeared for modern platforms, such as iOS and PlayStation 3. This product is compatible with Nintendo Game Boy handheld games consoles. The Game Boy version of the game was released in 1990 in Japan and North America. It features similar gameplay elements to the NES version, but unlike the NES game, it features black and white graphics. This game does not have an official rating, but it is appropriate for a variety of age groups. The Double Dragon for Game Boy video game offers excellent graphics for a Game Boy title. Although it lacks the color of the NES version, the visuals are detailed. The soundtrack and sound effects hold lots of vintage Game Boy charm.

    Very, Very Good!

The Double Dragon and Mickey Mouse game are great! The Draemon game has too much Japanese for me to figure out.

  • Double Dragon for Game Boy - A Solid Port

This game really brought back some fond childhood memories—days when you had free time all summer long to join your friends and play your favorite video games together. One of my favorites games of all time is none other than Double Dragon. The first version I played as a kid was the Nintendo port, which was the best fighting game I ever played at that time. Years later, I played the arcade version and realized there were significant differences, but the NES version was still a lot of fun in it's own right. I recently bought a used Game Boy on eBay and wanted to relive those memories by playing this Double Dragon classic once again. Sure enough, I'm still just as impressed as I was way back then! This version is very similar to the NES port in terms of the game play and level design. It's ...

  • Frustrating and Poorly Designed

I feel i should draw attention to the fact that this game was made in 1988. This was before video games really had a quality feel to them, and it shows with this game. The controls are simple: A to punch B to kick. The gameplay is simplistic and can get a bit boring at times. Walking around a non-descript urban location, then a warehouse, then a forest, etc, and providing a good beating to the inexplicably aggressive enemies can be fun for a while, but there are several aspects of the game design that become quite frustrating after a while. For example, if you get a game over you're forced to start the game from the beginning again, which can be extremely frustrating if you reach a high level. Another frustrating aspect is the sharp difficulty spike of some of the bosses. ...

  • One of the best versions of Double Dragon

I'm a big Double Dragon fan. I feel that this version is one of the best on the hand held console produced in the 1980's and 1990's. It follows a mixture of the NES version and the Arcade version. Although the graphics are limited because of the power of the gameboy, the gameplay is a plus. The only trouble is the controls when jumping to platform to platform. Sometimes you die when you really think you accomplished the jump. Is makes the game harder. Also, you start at the beginning of the stage when ever you die. That SUCKS. Besides that, the game is a must for Double Dragon fans everywhere. Thanks, Master K

  • Don't waste your money on this one, get the NES version instead!

I have been a Double Dragon fan for years, especially when I used to play the arcade version of this game back in the day. There are some good components for this Gameboy version of DD, such as the music (which was brilliantly translated from the NES version) and the play control. Unfortunately, what kills the fun out of this game is that there are no continues or stage selects, especially because I cannot beat the final level. I can make it past the wall of spikes but I simply gave up when I couldn't get past the final part before the boss so I just decided to sell the game. Get the NES version of this game instead, it has the color plus better graphics.
