Rehearsing for a new role? Dustin Hoffman goes 'undercover' during a playful game of hide-and-seek in LA

Dustin Hoffman is a man of many talents who can be serious, funny, or a combination of both.

The 77-year-old actor was showing his sillier side while running errands in the Los Angeles neighbourhood of Brentwood on Sunday.

Dustin used every method of disguise within reach during what appeared to be a game of hide-and-seek with some fans.

Perhaps borrowing a few moves from Inspector Clouseau, that bumbling but lovable French detective, Dustin emerged from a building and went into 'undercover' mode.

He suddenly hid behind a wood beam post, peeking slyly around with a seriously silly expression behind his cool aviator shades.

The grey-haired Tootsie star darted behind a ficus tree while peering through the leaves, before zooming to a bus stop point where he played at being The Invisible Man or perhaps even Inspector Clouseau.

Dustin black sports shirt, faded black jeans and yellow-soled black trainers didn't exactly blend into the scenery, but casual observers didn't want to spoil his fun and let him pretend.

His shenanigans didn't end there, for the sly star then tried to hide behind a very slender sign post.

Dustin was also seen peeking from around a tree trunk behind his sunglasses.

The star continues to work like the dynamo that he is, and can currently be seen opposite Adam Sandler in The Cobber, in US threatres now.

Hoffman also has a role in the sports-oriented drama Icon, due out this August, about an Irish journalist who strongly suspects that Lance Armstrong's Tour de France wins are fueled by banned substances and tries to expose the athlete.

The star - a father of six - also lends his voice to Kung Fu Panda 3, which is set for release on March 18, 2016.
