Universal Studios has let slip a major new development at Super Nintendo World Japan. Donkey Kong, star of the recent Super Mario Bros movie, and one of the best-selling game franchises of the 80s and 90s, is getting its own area in the theme park. Donkey Kong Country (named after the 1994 SNES game) will include a new rollercoaster called Minecart Madness. It reportedly even has a death-defying leap across a broken track. The new park will also have interactive experiences and lots of exclusive merchandise for the discerning fan.

The new section of the park is going to be huge, increasing the size of Super Nintendo World Japan by seventy percent! So we wouldn’t be surprised if there are some other rides that Nintendo is keeping under wraps.

The announcement was made at a special presentation with video game designer legend Shigeru Miyamoto (Donkey Kong, Mario, The Legend of Zelda). On the matter, he said:

“I am very happy to be able to make the world of Donkey Kong a reality following the world of Mario. I am looking forward to creating a thrilling Donkey Kong experience with the amazing team at Universal. It will take some time until it is completed, but it will be a unique area for not only people who are familiar with Donkey Kong games, but for all guests.”
