2007 SSC Ultimate Aero TT Coupe

A total of 24 examples of the SSC Ultimate Aero TT were built between 2006 and 2007. SSC was founded in West Richland, Washington by engineer Jerod Shelby (no relation to Carroll Shelby). The company built superchargers that were intended to compete against the better-known and well-established marques. Following years of design and development, the Ultimate Aero was born. It became the fastest production car in the world on September 13, 2007, reaching an average top speed of 256.14 MPH on a paved road in rural eastern Washington State, a record that was later broken by the Bugatti Veyron at 267.856 MPH. Displaced by Bugatti, SSC returned to the drawing board and came up with the SSC Ultimate Aero TT, a car that was capable of 273 MPH, as proven in the wind tunnels of NASA at Langley, Virginia. Compared to the Bugatti, the SSC was a bargain, costing south of $500,000 when it was new.

This particular example is chassis number 001 and is powered by a mid-mounted, twin-turbocharged 6.3-liter V8 engine offering 1,183 horsepower and 1,094 lb-ft of torque. The engine was backed by a six-speed manual transmission that channeled power to the rear wheels. The body is made of carbon fiber, which is partially responsible for its lightweight nature of just 2,749-pounds and features butterfly-style doors similar to the Ferrari Enzo and LaFerrari, as well as various McLarens. The exterior is finished in blue with a black center stripe and detailing. The custom Asanti wheels are also finished in black and wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport tires. The interior is done in gray leather with functional dash-mounted auxiliary gauges, a touch-screen infotainment system, and power windows.

The Aero also features the front lift system, which raises the nose about 4 inches to help avoid chin scrape on public highways or navigating driveway aprons.
