Overview

The Civic has been a long-time favorite among our staff for its effortless balance of practicality, value, and driving fun. For 2025 the venerable Civic receives styling updates to keep it looking fresh, and it gains a new hybrid powertrain option. We’re still waiting to hear many of the details about the 2025 Civic, but we suspect the hybrid will be the exclusive offering on the lineup's top trims. A nonhybrid offering at the lower end of the lineup might be the previously optional turbo four, but we'll have to wait until closer to the car's on-sale date to learn more. When the 2025 Civic hits the streets this summer it will face competition from the recently refreshed Hyundai Elantra and the alluring Toyota Prius, as well as its long-time arch-rival, the Toyota Corolla.

What's New for 2025?

The Civic Hybrid returns to the Honda lineup for the 2025 model year. The nameplate was discontinued in the U.S. after the 2015 model year, but Honda marketed a similar car called the Insight from 2019 to 2022. With increasing interest in hybrid models, the decision to resurrect the Civic Hybrid is well-timed. The rest of the Civic lineup will receive similar styling updates shown on the hybrid, and Honda promises feature updates as well.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2025 Honda Civic is expected to start around $26,000 and go up to $35,000 depending on the trim and options.

LX
$26,000 (est)
EX
$28,000 (est)
Sport Hybrid
$29,000 (est)
EX-L Hybrid
$31,000 (est)
Touring Hybrid
$33,000 (est)
Sport Touring Hybrid
$35,000 (est)

Honda hasn't released pricing for the 2025 Civic yet, and we expect to see some changes to the car's lineup mirroring those of the larger Accord sedan and CR-V SUV. This should see the hybrid models positioned at the middle and top of the range, with nonhybrids offered only on lower-level trims. We'll reserve judgment on which model represents the best buy until we learn more about the restyled Civic's lineup.

    Engine, Transmission, and Performance

LX and EX models could come standard with a 158-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder or the previously optional 180-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder. Either way, the Civic will be offered solely as a front-wheel-drive car. For the Civic Hybrid, we think Honda will use a version of the Accord Hybrid’s gasoline-electric setup, but possibly with less horsepower and a smaller gasoline engine. As soon as Honda releases official powertrain information, we’ll update this story with details. No matter what powers it, the Civic's nimble handling, communicative steering, and well-balanced ride should be maintained. Sporty Si and seriously sporty high-performance Type R variants are also part of the family, but we review those models separately.

    0–60-MPH Times

At our test track, our turbocharged Touring sedan needed 7.5 seconds to reach 60 mph, which is slightly slower than the last-generation Civic's result. The manual Sport Touring hatchback we tested did slightly better at 7.3 seconds to 60 mph.

      Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

A streamlined interior design sports clean lines and a dashboard featuring a full-width honeycomb-pattern mesh design element that cleverly hides the air vents. The wide center console provides plenty of room for storage, including a large, deep bin ahead of the shift lever for stashing smartphones, keys, and road-trip snacks. Passenger space inside is generous for the compact car class and the Civic's trunk is big enough for a large grocery haul or a road trip's worth of suitcases.

        Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Honda's standard warranty package is merely average, with rivals like the Elantra and Kia Forte offering more comprehensive coverage. Buyers of the Civic will find a complimentary scheduled maintenance plan, though, which is something the Toyota Corolla also offers as standard.

        • Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
        • Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
        • Complimentary scheduled maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles

As more information becomes available, we'll update this story with more details about:

        • Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
        • Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
        • Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
