Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are arguably one of the strongest couples in Hollywood, but do you know how their relationship started? “The Sweet Escape” singer appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, and talked about the early stages of her love story with Shelton. “God just put us together,” she told host Drew Barrymore.

The pop star admitted that she never thought she’d fall in love again after she and former husband Gavin Rossdale divorced in 2015. In fact, Stefani says she had come to terms with the fact that she’d likely live a routine life with her three sons, Kingston, Apollo, and Zuma. “It was like one of those miracle situations where I didn’t see it coming,” she revealed. “I was like, 'I’m going to wake up every day. I’m going to have coffee. I’m going to take care of my kids and then go to bed.’ Like, I’m never going to kiss anyone. I’m never going to—you know me. I thought my life was over. And then, Blake Shelton’s like, ‘Hey! I’m Blake Shelton.’” After meeting the country star in 2014, when both worked as coaches on The Voice, the rest was history for Stefani.

Although the pop singer admits she and her now-husband might appear to be polar opposites, they do share one very important thing in common: shared values. Stefani believes that those guiding principles formed the foundation that’s responsible for their successful relationship. “Finding a best friend, someone that is on the same plane when it comes to morals or just the way you look at life, that’s the dream,” she expressed. “Just having someone that we think the same about things. Yeah, we’re so different. He’s watching football and doing stuff that he does, and I’m putting makeup on, so whatever. We are so different, but yet, we’re so the same on so many levels.”

Even though the two first met in 2014, both were married to other people at the time. In 2015, after their marriages ended, the two began dating, and they reportedly bonded over their recent divorces. Five years later, on October 27, 2020, the happy couple announced their engagement, and, less than one year later, the pair tied the knot on July 3, 2021. The wedding was held at the groom’s Oklahoma ranch.

Throughout their relationship, the talented duo has collaborated on hit songs, such as “Nobody Like You” and “Happy Anywhere.”
