- A: AnswerHi, Sony added support for external USB hard drives on the PS5 with their April 2021 update. However, due to PS5 restrictions, games can only be played off the console’s internal SSD. - A: AnswerWD offers backup software for their drives for free with the purchase of the drive. There are also free options. I do not recommend using an SSD drive for backup of important files and would rather use a HDD. SSDs have a shorter lifespan than actual hard disk drives. Unless you need the transfer speed that a solid state drive offers.

Works great with my USB hub.
Been using it for several months. No corrupted data and no problems. Running it off a USB hub with a short adaptor cable.
