Héraldique napoléonienne
Lorsque par décrets du 1er mars 1808, Napoléon crée en France la Noblesse d'Empire, l'Empereur lui attribue un règlement héraldique très différent de celui appliqué sous l'Ancien Régime.
Tandis que de nouvelles armoiries furent créées à l'occasion de l'anoblissement de familles roturières de l'Ancien Régime, les anciennes familles nobles de nouveau reconnues dans la noblesse d'Empire adaptèrent leurs armes aux nouveaux règlements.
Au lendemain de Waterloo et de l'effondrement de l'Empire, seuls quelques chefs étoilés, quartiers d'azur et cantons de gueules subsisteront dans les armoiries des personnes issues de la noblesse d'Empire.
Les règles napoléoniennes ne concernent que le droit de porter tel ou tel élément selon son rang ou sa fonction, mais ne remettent en cause en aucune façon les règles pures de l'héraldique.
L'ancien régime avait lui aussi défini des règles limitant les droits d'utilisation de certaines figures, ainsi la fleur de lys d'or sur champ d'azur, réservé à la royauté.

Donner un « état civil » à de nombreux objets : œuvre d'art, antiquités, vaisselles, livres, etc., tout en les datant.
DE SEGUR « Droit d'images ».
Chacun peut découvrir que son nom a laissé un « droit d'images » qui nous vient de l'Antiquité.
On nommait ainsi, en droit romain, le privilège par les patriciens seuls d'exposer, sous l'atrium de leur maison, leur propre image et celles de leurs ancêtres.
Dans certains cas, on brisait les images de ses ancêtres et on les jetait à terre pour les fouler aux pieds.
C'est ce que l'on fit plus tard avec tous les blasons et armoiries de France pendant la Révolution.
