Both Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are big stars, but when it comes to their personal lives, they are notoriously tight-lipped. The pair have gone to great lengths to keep their home life and partnership out of the spotlight; Mendes recently confirmed on Instagram that the last time they were photographed together on the red carpet was in 2012, at the premiere of The Place Beyond the Pines, and that was only because they costarred in the film. “What a cool comment, thank you,” the actor wrote in response to a fan who commented that they’d love to see the couple together while promoting Gosling’s new film Barbie. “But we don’t do those things together.”

In recent years, reports have also surfaced that Gosling and Mendes are looking to move their family (the pair share two young daughters) out of Los Angeles, possibly up north to where they already have a home near Santa Barbara, or even further north, to Gosling’s hometown of Ontario, Canada. Wherever they end up, though, it’s very likely that they’ll continue leaning into the joys of domestic living. “Life is so chaotic,” Mendes told People. “But the one thing I can control is my house, my kitchen. So when I do the dishes it’s meditative for me.” Below, we’ve rounded up what we know of Gosling and Mendes’s real estate portfolio.

2002

Years before the couple was linked in 2011, Hitch actor Mendes was dating film director George Gargurevich. Together, the pair purchased a home in Los Feliz for $584,000. They split in 2010, but didn’t list the three-bedroom, two-bathroom pad until four years later. The 1,732-square-foot property was a midcentury residence with a tropical twist: images of the space reveal vintage, flowery wallpaper in the kitchen, unique lighting, and European fixtures. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows opened onto unparalleled city views and a lush backyard, complete with a chicken coop, fruit trees, raised vegetable boxes, a cedar hot tub and outdoor shower. Ultimately Mendes sold the home for $1.27 million in 2014.

Gosling first moved to Los Angeles from Ontario when he was just 16 years old, in the mid-90s. Some years later, The Notebook star purchased a bachelor pad in Studio City and opened up a Moroccan restaurant called Tagine in Beverly Hills. His contemporary modernist home was extremely private, situated up a long road and referred to as a “modest two-bedroom LA house.” The only other things known about the single-family residence are that it was built in 1947, and that Gosling reportedly sold it to Hollywood costume designer Mark Avery in an off-market deal nearly two decades later.

Though Eva Mendes has clarified that she has not quit acting, she is very selective about which roles she takes these days. “I had a career and then I changed my focus to my family,” she has said.

Mendes purchased a sprawling 3,900-square-foot Mediterranean Revival home in Los Feliz for $3.2 million. The four-bedroom mansion quickly became the couple’s family home after they got together in 2011 and welcomed their two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada, in 2014 and 2016, respectively. “I’m an actress, I’ve designed clothes, I’ve done a number of different things,” Mendes told Today in 2022. “But this is the most creative thing, is to create life with them.” The property, built in 1926, comprised four bedrooms and sat on a third of an acre. They sold it for $4.9 million in 2018.

2014

With all of their known LA properties sold off, Mendes and Gosling appear to be embracing the next phase of their lives, feeding into rumors of their plan to leave the city behind for good—something that seems to have been in the cards for quite some time. (Gosling, in an interview with The Independent in 2013, had said that “[in] Los Angeles, it’s easy to lose touch with everything. You just sit in your car the whole time.” At the time, he was living in New York City.)

The couple purchased a vacation getaway in Santa Barbara for an undisclosed amount in 2014, and it seems likely that they now call this their main home. The farmhouse was reportedly built in 2000 and features four bedrooms and five bathrooms, as well as a vaulted-ceiling great room, a dining room, and a kitchen with reclaimed barn wood cabinets.
