Glen
So this will work out of the box (plug and play) however even though the devices seem to pull their own IP (one my dhcp server didn't give them) of like 192.168.168.55 it will send around 50 - 60 Mbps of data to every port and device on your network. It jumped 3 switches hitting everydevice and port it could find. So with some vlan setup (you'll need managed switches atleast) you can isolate the two devices into their own network.
This manufacturer has an awful lot of different contraptions that transmit HDMI signals and IR remote control signals through an Ethernet cable. Frankly, they should consider reducing simplifying their product line to make it less confusing.
However, presuming that there is a good reason for having so many different devices to do essentially the same thing, the manufacturer should do a better job explaining their product line on their website, in their listings on Amazon, and in the literature that comes with their products.
The reason that this is pertinent to this particular product is that the so-called "manual" that comes with this product gives tantalizing clues as to how this product could be used in a larger configuration where an HDMI signal could be transmitted to multiple receivers, and where there may even be multiple transmitters sending out multiple HDMI signals to multiple receivers ---- I would actually be interested in some of that! However, the so-called manual gives no part numbers or any other explanation of what is needed or what to buy from the manufacturer to actually create that larger configuration ---- so, by being either lazy or just plain cheap, or both, the manufacturer is cheating themselves out of potential additional business!
SECOND PROBLEM: The whole IR remote control signal relaying feature ("IR blaster" feature) does not work. I have tried in numerous ways to put the IR output device right on the front face of the HDMI source device, and I have put the remote control right up against the IR input device and fired away with one button press command after another, and nothing ---- nothing happens.
It would be nice if the so-called manual actually gave some details on which direction to orient the IR receiver device and the IR emitter device so that I could be sure I was at least doing that part correctly ---- but there isn't a single word or diagram about that, and so I had to try endless combinations of orienting each of the IR receiver and the IR emitter to try and discover the correct orientations, myself.
It would be nice if there was something in the manual about trouble-shooting this IR remote control signal relaying function, but there isn't a single word in the so-called manual about what to watch for or what to do when trying to get that part to work ---- is there any kind of blinking or other sign that I could get by watching the LEDs on either unit that would tell me if I'm being even partially successful?
Since the so-called manual was of no help, I tried going to the manufacturer's website, and it was no better ---- in fact, it is actually worse... First, I had to try and find the particular product I bought on their website, and then, when I did, the diagrams on the website don't match the product that I actually received ---- and even after that, I could find nothing about troubleshooting the IR remote control signal relaying function.
THIRD PROBLEM: The manufacturer needs to understand that good literature is important, and they need to stop either being lazy or being cheap, and actually create and provide good manuals and a more helpful website for their products.
The manual that comes with this product should have larger pages that provide enough room to provide effective diagrams. There should be perfectly clear pictures or diagrams of the plugging together of the IR receiver and the IR emitter into the correct ones of the transmitter box and the receiver box ---- relying on tiny little stickers wrapped around the cables to identify which is which does not cut it.
The manual should not just mention that there is a status LED on each of the transmitter and receiver boxes ---- it should give information as to what it means when either LED flashes, changes color, remains continuously off or remains continuously on ---- by not providing any information on what the status LEDs are indicating, those LEDs are rendered utterly useless, and might as well not even be there. If you're going to provide such a useless manual, you might as well go all the way and provide no indicators of any kind on the product!
Similarly, the manual should not just mention that there is a reset button on each of the transmitter and receiver boxes ---- it should give information as to what the reset buttons are for and how to use them ---- Under what circumstances should they be used? Are they used by simply pressing and releasing them, or do you have to press them continuously for some number of seconds? Do they work only when the transmitter or receiver boxes are on or off, or does it even matter?
Then, as if all of that weren't enough, what little there is to a so-called "troubleshooting" section in the so-called "manual" makes mention of situation in which it may be good to press an "EDID copy button" and hold it for three seconds ---- there's just one problem, neither the transmitter or receiver boxes have such a button! --------- DID ANYONE READ THIS SO-CALLED MANUAL BEFORE GIVING APPROVAL TO SHIP THIS PRODUCT???
enough to actually show details. Also, the so-called manual should have details in it about the correct product ---- here are just a few of the specific problems...

Picture quality over about 75ft is amazing, no audio cutting, IR works perfect.
Luckily I had a cable run from my furnace room (where cable box now is) to living room TV. That cable going between 2 points is going though a Patch Panel and then I’m using patch cords on each ends to connect to each unit. Still no issues!
This is only my first day of using it but so far no issues. My intent behind purchase was to have my new satellite box sit in the basement (only place I am able to get COAX to) and then send the video output from it upstairs to my TV. So far it’s looking like this will do just that :)
I have well over 100 feet of double Cat5e cable that is surrounded by electrical cables, which should create interference but isn't. My projector now works like a charm.
Cheers
