Key Game Features
- Be a Pro - Dirt 3 puts players in the racing boots of a professional motorsports athlete. The beaten up RV of Dirt 2 is a thing of the past as gamers compete against stars including Ken Block and Kris Meeke across a range of racing and driving disciplines at spectacular locations across the world.
- More, More, More - Dirt 3 boasts more cars, more locations, more routes and more events than any other game in the Dirt series. There are now 100+ routes in the game compared to Dirt 2's 41. Dirt 3 offers the finest selection of licensed action-sports racing cars available and the largest line up to feature in any Codemasters racing game, including cars that represent 5 decades of rallying from classics like the Mini Cooper and Audi Quattro to Ken Block's rally spec Ford Fiesta.
- Rally is Back - After consulting fan-feedback, reviews and performing exhaustive data mining, the standout event from Dirt 2, Rally, returns with more than double the amount of content. Multistage rallies are set at classic locations from the traditional rally heartland of Scandinavia to the jungles of Kenya and the forests of Europe and the USA, taking players to the most dramatic, inhospitable and exciting terrain on the planet where only the most fearless drivers race.
- Express Yourself with Gymkhana - The 15 million-plus YouTube phenomenon pioneered by Ken Block now powerslides into to Dirt 3. Gamers can test their car control to the very limit and drift, spin-dry and jump their way to stardom in all new Gymkhana events. Set in specially created arenas packed with props, players can practice their skills, chain together moves, complete challenges or hang out online with friends in this spectacular video game first.
- Let It Snow - For the first time in the Dirt series, players will enjoy the unique and exhilarating spectacle of racing on snow. A highly advanced particle and physics model powers snow that builds up on the track, wheel tread and the car as it falls more heavily throughout the race. As players drive they will feel the change in the handling as the snow compacts at different rates depending on your speed, angle and cornering. This best-in-class feature delivers truly jaw-dropping visual and performance effects.

At the beginning it's hard to get used to drive but after a frustrating hour of playing and restarting many times it's so great.
I only have a week with this game and 20% completed in carrer mode but there are my impressions.
Pros
You can play with all new cars especially gymkhana cars they are great, but also you can play with old, middle-old school cars, trucks, buggy, this is great because you can notice the difference between them while driving, the hp, torque, shifting, etc, newer cars had a lot more power. This feature adds dinamic to the game.
There are many carrer mode: rallycross, head to head, gymkhana, against time, rallycross racing, etc. It's great for me that they focus at rallycross beacause is my favorite carrer mode and they're going back to the roots.
Gymkhana concept is great, it start with a tutorial until you drive as Ken Block, is harder than it looks especially with the wheel and inside car camera. But you will feel like you're at the pier dirftig like crazy and praying not to fall on the wather or overturn your car.
The locations, cars and graphics looks pretty good.
The xbox live esperience is excellent, i had expirenced no lag. You can find a race quickly and all carrer modes are available, when it finish you can keep racing with same people almost inmediatly or go back and look for other racers, the voice comunication is great, you cant annoy other competitor when you win. There is a veto vote before any race.
Cons
The carrer mode is linear, you have to follow the order of the raceS in order to unlock new stages, altough almost aways the next race it's tottaly different to the last one.
The difficult can be increased but the flashbacks still the same, if you are triying to challenge yourself you will have 5 or 6 flashback always sometimes is good but sometimes it makes the game too easy.
The public at the track looks terrible.
The loading time sometimes is frustating.
The soundtrack it's a little boring.
You can't customize yor car, you can only do before race fast changes like at dirt 2.
They are always selling new tracks even since the first circuit of carrer the are a lot of cars and tacks blocked and you will have to purchase them if you want to complete 100% carrer mode. This is anoying especially when you just spend 50$ for the game.
Conclusion
If you're really into rally specially after the xgames and gymkhana, this game is for you, it's really exciting play it with the wheel and the force feedback (i had never played with the xbox controller but i played dirt 2 with it). It ensures fun for a lot of time with carrer mode and xbox live.
Hope this helps.

I'll start with comparisons to Dirt 2. The handling model is pretty identical to what it was in Dirt 2 but I'd say it's a little less forgiving. A lot of the cars are in the 500-650 horsepower range when you're not restricted by the S2000 regulations (WRC), which means you have to drive faster, and being that the power usually comes from the same 2.0L and less engines with massive turbos, the power is more peaky so if you play with a manual transmission you have to watch your RPM's and gearing more than in Dirt 2 as well, because in Dirt 2 the same car would not vary much between disciplines. It's easy to pick this game up and play it and have a blast, but it is harder than Dirt 2, at least the advanced setting.
If you favor the more serious nature of stage rally heritage over the sort of hip, extreme sports, X-Games nature of Rally Cross, you're in for a mixed bag. What you'll like is that there is a lot more Rally, and in more places. You can alter the weather and time of day, among making your own restrictions in single race, and there are TONS of old school rally cars. I don't know much about the old rally cars, but I know there's E30 BMW's, the old Mini Cooper, a couple Ford Cosworth something or others, Lancia Delta, R4, Audi Quattro, and some Alfa Romeos and Peugeots, so if you're into those it's nice and doing the rear-drive rallies are much more challenging. There are more varied locations as well, just more in general. Finland, Minnesota, Monaco (DLC), Japan, Norway, England, LA, Africa. Not necessarily everywhere, but you get more varied environments from rolling hills to cliffside roads, snowy forests, deserts, maybe sort of rainforest/jungle places, and there are a lot of transitions from tarmac to gravel so it's pretty mixed up. Basically, Rally once again comprises a higher percentage of the game time than the other disciplines all put together by a small amount.
The things that you may not like are perhaps gymkhana, Land Rush (Trophy Trucks, less often than Dirt 2) and the overall stylized nature of basically everything outside of actually being in a rally stage. There are silly challenges like smashing cardboard robot aliens, the multiplayer has a zombie mode etc. You can just tell it's pretty lighthearted. I like it though, the game clearly takes itself a little more seriously than Dirt 2, but it keeps thing interesting in the menus and such. Basically, just know that DC Shoes, Monster and Ken Block lended a lot of their talent to gymkhana tutorials, development of the game, voices, tuning handling etc. so you're going to be getting a lot of the sort of stuff that they are interested in, which goes a lot beyond straight rally.
One of the problems I have is that the only option to save replays is uploading 30 second clips to YouTube, so basically, as of now, there is no way to show someone a minute and a half rally stage without uploading 3 videos separately, it takes a while to upload, and they are only uploaded in 480P. I consider this somewhat of a major drawback, but a lot of that is that I know it's mostly a software issue but I doubt it will be changed.
Also, this is a buy-new incentive game. If you buy a used copy, you'll lack the online play, miss out on 5 vehicles, and I'm not sure you can upload videos. I bought it new so I can't confirm this.
Visually, this game looks better than Dirt 2 in almost all areas. One commonplace occurrence these days however, is that there are some blurry textures on the car in exchange for some better lighting, geometry and particle effects. I see a lot of games doing that these days. One nice thing also is that this game runs in full 1080P with anti-aliasing. Most games are only at 720P with no AA because we've stretched the consoles pretty thin these days. The game rarely dips in frame rate. Very rarely. This is a very colorful game. From the graphics for each sponsored tournament, to some very cool liveries, to the varied tracks, it's really just fun to look at.
The sound is also really good. The soundtrack is a lot different this time around, more underground and EDM and less of the Rise Against, Kanye West type stuff that you get typically in need for speed. Their are a lot of tracks with some dubstep wobbles, a couple Atmosphere songs and some Starkey. Much more mature in my opinion, a little more UK and a little less teeny-bopper. All of the songs are songs you probably wouldn't get tired of as fast. I personally love it because the style is right up my alley. The cars sound really, really nice. With simulation racers you always get a revvy, whiney engine sound and no exhaust note. The engines in this are distinct, you can really here the turbo spools, all the cars have unique sound diveter valves (blow off valves), and you get that really harsh, unleashed-beast exhaust note, the Braaaaps and the popping of anti-lag and just the sound of aggressive camshaft profiles etc. Sounds exactly like what you'd expect and not so synthesized and formulaic as in Forza or Gran Turismo. There are now two managers that guide you along in the Dirt Tour menus, a sexy British-accent lady and a sort of "dude you nailed that one!" sort of guy who just makes you feel good all the time haha. The co-drivers now say pretty funny things after insane crashes, though there are still just two of them. Ken Block lends his voice to the Gymkhana lessons as well. It's worth noting that the other drivers don't taunt each other in Rally Cross anymore, which is ok but I felt like it made the computer vehicles seem more human in Dirt 2 and I liked that they talked to each other and not just to you. But maybe people complained.
Also, they improved options for people who have a wheel. More adjustment of dead zones, saturation and force feedback.
There is a lot of DLC out right now. It's sort of an in your face to any vehicle you don't have because they appear greyed out with a big red "BUY!" sign on them when selecting a car for a race, but the game does come with 52 vehicles. It may not seem like a lot, but remember, that's just cars from Rally, Rallycross, Gymkhana and Stadium Truck disciplines. Some neat cars you can get that I haven't tried out yet are the new Camaro SS-X track car concept, and Tanner Foust's Nascar crate engine, RWD converted Scion Tc from Formula D.
I guess the overall question of a lot of people would be, would Colin McRae be proud of this game? I think so. Dirt 3 is trying to be a game for the new school and the old school fans of rally at the same time, and for the most part, it's successful. It keeps the flair and excitement of Dirt 2 and makes it a little more mature, brings back the classic rally, and still adds more fun stuff. I think if Colin was alive, he'd understand that this is part of what happens when a sport gets exposure in the US.
Let me know if you have any questions, I'm usually pretty good about answering stuff.
Codemasters has also recently announced that they will be coming out with a DLC pack every week. The first is the Colin McRae Vision Charity Pack which will give you the Ford Escort MK ll with 5 Liveries and cost 160 MSP, all profits from this pack go to the Colin McRae Vision Charity.
I will update if I find any problems with it, but chances are that if your not happy with the game, that you probably are just bad at playing it or take video games way too seriously.
