I played Dark Souls 2 on the Xbox 360 and loved it so much that I was excited to buy Scholar of the First Sin for my new Xbox One. So there you are, forewarned, I was predisposed to like this. There are some changes to the original. In some instances, good, in some sort of random, like they were just trying to make it different for players like me, but without spending too much time or thought. Some of the changes were obviously to help new players "find" things more easily, which is probably a good thing. They added some new NPC invaders and other baddies in unexpected places. Overall, I'm glad for the changes, so I couldn't just run through by rote.

Functional Pros: Loading screens and summoning appear to be much faster on this combo.
Functional Cons: This game freezes and randomly bumps me out once EVERY time I play. It does return you to the pace you were when it happened, but if you are co-oping, then you end up back at the summoning place. 4 friends have had the same experience. Luckily, it has always been exactly ONCE. Hoping they'll patch this soon!

I found all the bosses easier, but can't tell if they've been nerfed or it's just because I've *done* them all multiple times on harder levels. I did find that newbie co op buddies from other games got plenty frustrated at how hard it was, so no worries if you want a challenge.

My favorite part of this game is co op. You can call in buddies, helpful strangers (I've met more than one good buddy trying to kill a dragon) or NPCs for all of the "required" bosses, and much of the regular part of the game too.

The PVP is also great. Yes being invaded can be a pain, though I got invaded much less in this version, maybe just because fewer people are playing. And I'm not into invading others, but *banishing* an invader and sending him home is FUN and dueling is AMAZING. All the different weapons, upgrades and infusions make the variety endless, and pitting your skills against others is addictive.

If you hate spoilers or are a loner, you are in for a long and possibly frustrating adventure, or missing some cool things. I think they did place a few "keys" closer to the "lock" to make that a bit less frustrating for new players but I found Dark Souls 2, in general, took some help from someone that has done it before, or a handy internet device for looking up You Tube videos or querying Souls Wikis.

Overall, new player or repeat, Scholar of the First Sin is worth a play through or two. And then there is always PVP!

This game was amazing! I've played the first one, and I must say that this game is a vast improvement in so many ways! The controls and gameplay feel a lot more fluid, the sheer amount of weapons and items is impressive, and there's so much variety to be had that replay value is phenomenal! As vague as all this is, if you've played the first and enjoyed it, I highly recommend this. If you've played Dark Souls II and are curious is this enhancement is worth it, I have friends who have played it and will agree that it is a vast improvement and, with the addition of all DLC, say that this is well worth the price. If you're new to Dark Souls and wish to jump in here, I say this is as good a spot as any if you don't have any interesting in playing the first. The lore remains the same, but the story isn't connected (contradiction? you bet!) so you won't be missing much if you're just heading in.

TL;DR -- Great game that's worth the price for new and returning players (DS1 & DS2).

I remember the first time I played a Dark Souls game, it was Demon Souls and I thought it was the most clunky, frustrating action/RPG I had ever played. But if you're familiar with the series, you know what I'm going to say. I just had to figure it out. I had to make it work right. I then spent a couple of months laboring away at and understanding the series.

Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin was my third Dark Souls game and I thoroughly enjoy it but it's missing something, isn't it? Either that or I've figured these games out. I've not, I can still go back to Demon's Souls and get my butt handed to me. This is a fun game, it's really a better place to start than Dark Souls or Demons Souls just because you're not likely to get as frustrated and mad at this one. There's a part of me that doesn't even know if this series is in my top 5 favorite or top 5 most hated. I get a new Dark Souls game and let it set there. Looking at me. Knowing the beating it will give me but not Dark Souls II. Lots of weapons, lots of bosses (not as impressive as the others in the series), great atmosphere in all these games. A tip from someone who hates spoilers and who doesn't like multiplayer games. You can summon someone to help you if stuck. I hate that! Why do I need help? I'll play it 1,000 times! So, yeah, not for sure if I love it or hate it. I will say I buy every Dark Souls game and have played through all them without needing to summon any help. It has added gray to my beard and taken years off my life but it can be done. I'm also sort of kidding about the hatred part. After awhile you either quit or just accept that you're going to get killed over and over until that one perfect moment when you do something right and make it. It reminds me of older video games. Kind of like the difficulty and frustration of the old Mega Man and Castlevania games. Last, this one isn't near as hard. My son (12 at the time) beat it and he won't even hardly play the others. Good series to test your patience and luck too.

Delivery was one of the best I had. Game crashed in the intro, but other than that I've had no problems. Reliable service and product was exactly as promised. It's hard to find a few games on the Microsoft store worth the price, and this was around half the price they're asking.

If you're reading this review it's because you love pain and suffering, and want to feel the nostalgia of the sweet "You Died" coming across your screen after getting smashed in an outrageous hit box. This game is far harder than the OG Dark Souls 2, and in a good way. Not sure why this costs so much on Xbox live, so spend half the money for the same thing here, and get ready to die!
