    Bought the product to go with a new 15" MacBook Pro as I was creating an end product which involved heavy memory use. My 12" Mac even with a 4T ext hard drive was struggling to cope. Very slow plus the c-hub kept disconnecting. The iMac Pro plus this external ssd has so far proved to be very good and fast.
    Only concern is that it does get a bit hot but then so does the iMac Pro after continual use.

    This is much faster than the built-in SSD in my laptop. I wish I had noticed earlier that it required Windows 10 (tucked away in the details) but once that was installed away it went!. Thunderbolt 3 ports are fairly new and I suspect not in most pcs/laptops so be sure you have one. The drive is very pricey if you are not going to get the full performance through lack of the proper port, but well worth the money if you are dealing with big files and do have thunderbolt 3.

    I initially plugged mine in to my LG Gram Laptop which has an SSD hard drive and ran a back up of my photos, music and documents. It flashed for a few moments and then stopped. I immediately thought it was broken but was amazed that it has backed up the drive almost instantaneously. I had to check a few time because I couldn't believe the speed. You do need a proper Thunderbolt cable (supplied with the Drive) for these Thunderbolt drives or you don't get the speed.
    This is well made, sturdy, good looking and smooth. It fits nicely in my Laptop case and feels very well made. It is very easy to use and creates a small icon on the desktop when you first plug it in.
    Apart from the high price I can't fault this. I score it 3/5 for value for money but apart from that I score it 5/5 which is probably a first for me. It's been really impressive. There are huge price variations if you search the internet. I would certainly recommend it.

    Use this drive as your boot drive on your 2017+ 21” or 27” iMac and you'll never look back. Super quick and easy to set up. The speed difference is fantastic. If you bought a Mac Mini 2018 model, you can use the Samsung X5 as the boot drive, too.

    You can even use your Time Machine image to restore on to this X5 disk which makes the process of switching from the internal slow, SATA drive to the X5 really straightforward.

    Note that you will lose a thunderbolt 3 port though as this will need to be connected all the time.

    I run a 3 x 5k iMac Pro setup for VFX production and this drive fits in nicely. It's almost as fast as the iMac Pro's internal SSD and has worked faultlessly these past few months. It's a 5 star product in a my view although I do have 2 little niggles.

    1/ It only connects via Thunderbolt 3. That's it. So if you want to move it across to non T3 devices you are a bit stuck.

    2/ And perhaps this is a little unfair, but it doesn't daisy chain, meaning you can't plug other T3 devices into it. Not so much of an issue I guess as something has to be at the end of the chain, so why not this drive.

    All in all though I see this as a bargain, and for those of you living in Mac world as I do, you should consider adding one of these drives rather than buying a bigger drive at time of purchase in the Apple store - simply because Apple charges way OTT for any spec enhancements.

    I bought this drive as an external to my MacBook Pro (2017) model and the X5 benchmarks faster just than the internal drive! I am running multiple Parallels VMs and you really can’t tell that it’s all on an external drive! I have also just bought a 2019 Dell XPS 13 and it works perfectly on this machine also. It’s not cheap but if you need it then it’s well worth then money, great kit would definitely recommend.

    Cercavo un’unità SSD esterna per ampliare la capacità disco del mio iMac 27 i7 2020 dotato di soli 512GB e per ottenere prestazioni allineate all’SSD interno la scelta è caduta obbligatoriamente su un’unità esterna Thunderbolt 3 poiché era l’unica tipologia che poteva garantire velocità di lettura/scrittura molto elevate.
    Inizialmente ero orientato sul disco SSD SanDisk Extreme Pro NVMe, ma diverse recensioni dove si riferivano prestazioni inferiori a quanto dichiarato dal costruttore e problemi di affidabilità hanno fatto ricadere la mia scelta su questo SSD Thunderbolt 3 Samsung X5 da 1 TB (MU-PB1T0B).
    Bisogna tenere ben presente che questa unità SSD dispone della sola connessione Thunderbolt 3, quindi è rivolta esclusivamente ai possessori di macchine Mac o Windows dotate di questo tipo di interfaccia e solo con questa si possono ottenere le velocità dichiarate .
    Dopo diversi mesi di utilizzo devo dire che non potevo fare scelta migliore. Questo SSD è effettivamente molto, molto veloce, tanto da non far percepire alcuna differenza rispetto all’unità SSD interna del mio iMac (addirittura test da me effettuati con Disk Speed Test mostrano una velocità di lettura leggermente superiore). Principalmente utilizzato con Final Cut Pro e DaVinci Resolve, ho spostato su di esso le librerie dei programmi che utilizzo maggiormente. Samsung X5 è dotato di software Portable SSD Samsung per impostare la crittografia AES a 256 bit ed effettuare eventuali aggiornamenti firmware, e di cavo Thunderbolt 3. Design dalle linee arrotondate, studiato per dissipare al meglio il calore generato (che tra l’altro non ho mai particolarmente notato in mesi di funzionamento), leggero e compatto, anche se dai colori un po’ particolari (case in grigio scuro metallizzato/rosso acceso), ma dalle prestazioni veramente eccezionali. Prezzo un po’ elevato, ma adeguato alle prestazioni e alla qualità del prodotto.
    Consigliato a chi ha necessità di trasferimento file veloci e montaggio video.

    Nota per gli utenti Mac:
    Ho acquistato questa unità nel dicembre 2021 e, contrariamente a quanto riportato in una recensione proveniente dall’estero, non ho riscontrato alcun problema di compatibilità software né con MacOS Catalina né con Mojave.

    Leuk idee. Een supersnelle Thunderbolt schijf voor als je iMac nog een gewone schijf heeft. Alleen is het gekochte exemplaar na 3 maanden al stuk. Geen enkele Mac reageert nog op de schijf en Windows blijft zeggen dat het een onbekend apparaat is.

    Ben veel beter gewend van Samsung.

    En unos dias se me acaba la garantía de mi iMac 2019 (19,1) de 27" y estaba pensando en abrirlo y ponerle un disco SSD.     Muy recomendable si tienes conexión thunderbolt 3, porque es mas rápido que los discos internos y no tienes que arriesgarte a abrirlo y a que se te despegue la pantalla a los pocos días como he leído que le ha pasado a gente por ahí.
    Mi Mac tiene fusion drive y arrancaba muy rápido hasta que llegó Big Sur. El arranque se hizo perezoso. Con este disco vuelve a arrancar en 30 segundos.
    Hay gente que dice que se calienta mucho. Esta unidad al principio y después de darle caña durante 3 horas estaba templado al tacto. Le hice un primer clonado de disco que no me convenció y vuelta a clonar con otras opciones. 35º según el termómetro infrarrojo que usé para saber la temperatura exacta.
    Hoy llevo todo el día trasteando, incluso editando video 4k HDR y no parece un disco externo.
    Si estás en la misma situación que yo es una buena compra. Me ha costado 50€ mas que todo lo que necesitaba para abrir el Mac pero merece la pena y no arriesgas la integridad del equipo.

    En unos dias se me acaba la garantía de mi iMac 2019 (19,1) de 27" y estaba pensando en abrirlo y ponerle un disco SSD. Me encontré con muchas reviews de este disco y de gente que lo usaba como disco externo de arranque y que les iba de maravilla. Yo ya había probado ese sistema para probar las betas de los nuevos sistemas operativos sin tener que particionar el disco interno.

    Avec un Imac Fusion Drive de 1To, c'était la misère. Non que la machine soit poussive, mais le disque dur à 5400 t/min n'arrivait pas à tenir le rythme, et même avec 16 Go de RAM pour éviter les swap, chaque chargement était long, très long, en commençant par le démarrage de la machine : interminable.
    J'ai donc acheté et connecté ce SSD X5 de 1To sur un port TB3. L'installation de BigSur a été rapide, et ensuite, j'ai utilisé l'assistant migration, pour rapatrier les logiciels et réglages, mots de passe et autres du disque interne. Là, une fois lancé, vous pouvez ouvrir un livre, regarder une saison sur Netflix, et faire une séance de yoga... Il a fallu 5 heures pour un rapatriement de la config.
    Mais après... quel plaisir. Démarrage du Mac en 15 secondes. Je n'ai pas vu le temps long que certains décrivent par rapport à la reconnaissance au démarrage du X5. Chez moi, c'est immédiat. Je retrouve mon Mac exactement comme il était sur HD, le même bureau, mes mots de passe sous Safari ou FireFox, mes réglages, tous mes programmes... L'assistant migration est très puissant. Aucun bug au bout de deux jours d'utilisation en production intensive. Pour moi, c'est parfait.
    Le lancement des logiciels est rapide (Suite Adobe, Microsoft Office et Windows sous Parallel Desktop), le tout est devenu fulgurant. Même en sortant de la boite, il n'était pas aussi rapide : l'icône sautillait de longues, très longues secondes.
    Mon Mac est devenu RAPIDE. Je ne regrette pas l'achat, même si j'ai dû casser la tirelire. Reste à voir sur la durée maintenant (j'ai installé Trim enabler).
    Si vous avez un Imac, même récent, et que vous avez fait, comme moi, la grave erreur de prendre un modèle avec disque à plateau, ce SSD externe est efficace et donne des débits quasi identiques à un SSD interne. Même à 336€, c'est moins cher que d'acheter un Mac neuf.

    Överföringshastigheten till och från hårddisken är långt ifrån utlovad prestanda. De första 30 sekundrarna är den snabb men antar att någon cache eller liknande blir därefter full och hastigheten blir lägre än en klassisk HDD.
    Enheten blir extremt varm vid hård belastning och för att hålla upp prestandan behöver enheten extern kylning. Mycket dyr och dålig prestanda. Jag har skickat tillbaka min och köpt en för mindre än halva priset som är mycket snabbare.
