Chairman of Admical, a French organization dedicated to corporate philanthropy. Former President and Director of the Louvre Museum until 2012. Scholar of nineteenth-century French art, specifically the art and life of Edgar Degas. Led the French museum system through a period of change. His time at the Louvre has been marked by two major projects – a new wing dedicated to the Islamic arts and a satellite museum in the northern city of Lens. In 2007, Loyrette endorsed the Louvre Abu Dhabi expansion on Saadiyat Island. He also introduced contemporary art to the museum's collection, with purchases of works by artists including Cy Twombly, Anselm Kiefer and Francois Morellet. Former Director of the Musée d'Orsay.
