LET'S DO THE TIME WARP

Julia Roberts Just Got the Same Bangs She Had in 2006

Still a classic.

Where were you in 2006? I was in my first year of college, living it up in a big city where I had access to Sephora and Dior mascara anytime I wanted it. Julia Roberts, on the other hand, was making her Broadway debut in the play Three Days of Rain. The movie star had chocolate brown hair and a sweet set of brow-brushing curtain bangs. It turns out that not much has changed in the past 17 years — I'm still zipping to Sephora any chance I get, and Roberts is back to those very same bangs.

Roberts, who is currently starring in the Netflix adaptation of Leave the World Behind, attended a VIP screening for the film in London looking strikingly similar to her 2006 self. Her hair color has changed, as she's currently rocking a coppery twist on her Pretty Woman-era auburn, but the bangs are back in action and looking just as good as they did nearly 20 years ago. For the premiere, Roberts wore her hair in loose, effortless beachy waves brushed over her shoulders, as she often does, with the curtain bangs parted ever so subtly in the middle. Once again, it's strikingly similar to her 2006 look, but it's clearly an “If it ain't broke” situation.

Roberts has had an on-and-off love affair with bangs, just as most of us do. She's experimented with fringe countless times over the course of her career, cutting her most recent set in March 2023. At first, the bangs were a classic straight-across style, but they've evolved throughout the year, which is the fun (and the frustration) of bangs. Most recently, Roberts changed up her part and played with the concept of “side curtain bangs,” which sounds a lot more confusing than it actually is, and it appears that she may have tweaked them again! My 2006 self didn't have bangs and my 2023 self doesn't either, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't thinking about following Roberts's lead right about now.
