  • Canadian-based AKA partners with leading French hydrogen technologies provider EODev to deliver zero emissions power generators to the North American Market
  • Designed for land (GEH2®) and maritime (REXH2®) applications, these hydrogen powered generators aim at replacing diesel gensets with no CO2, HC, NOx, or fine particles emissions
  • Main land markets include back-up solutions, prime energy sources for isolated or confined sites as well as additional power for construction sites or events, while maritime solutions can be fitted in all types of boats

Aspin Kemp & Associates Inc. and EODev are proud to partner to bring the land and maritime 100% electro-hydrogen and REXH2® zero emissions power generators to the North American Market. With an initial order of three GEH2® to be used on construction sites and two REXH2® to integrate in a marine application, AKA proves that the North American market is at the forefront of the shift to hydrogen-based clean power generation solutions and a zero-emissions future.

Both the Canadian and US American Governments have made commitments to work towards a zero-emissions future, including the land and maritime power industries. This recent development goes along with the private sector’s uptake of lower emissions technologies, such as hybrid propulsion. Aspin Kemp & Associates (AKA), a Canadian-based company, has been a leader in this sector developing innovative technologies with proven reductions of harmful emissions.

In their continuous search of innovative solutions for alternative engines that reduce C02 emissions and to further their commitment to an environmental approach, it is with these perspectives in mind that Aspin Kemp & Associates has decided to partner with the French company EODev (Energy Observer Developments) with the goal to bring electro-hydrogen power generators for land and maritime applications to the North American market, respectively the EODev – GEH2® and REXH2®.

The GEH2® and REXH2® power generators were developed by EODev and designed around Toyota’s latest generation fuel cell offer, with their record energy density and modular solutions. After more than a year of development and intensive testing in real conditions of use, EODev has been able to achieve a hydrogen power generator at an affordable cost.

GEH2®, the ally of the energy transition on land
The GEH2® use of a fuel cell and a Lithium Iron Phosphate battery massively reduces noise emissions and provides an instant start. This combination of power enables the GEH2® to deliver 70 kW of continuous electricity. Very easy to use, the GEH2® is equipped with event-driven electrical outlets, standardized frequency and voltage levels (230V / 400V – 50Hz & 60Hz) as well as remote control and data acquisition.

Designed to provide any energy ecosystem with instantaneous power, the GEH2® offers a silent solution with no CO2, HC, NOx, or fine particles emissions. No more noise or black fumes forcing operators to wear earphones and anti-pollution masks. The GEH2® only emits hot water and filtered air. And with the heat dissipated by the fuel cell, cogeneration can be realized.

Each GEH2® has a Prime Running Power of 100kVA and an Emergency Stand-by Power of 110kVA for one hour. Thanks to its double H2 adduction, the GEH2® operates continuously, as you can switch to the second supply circuit while in operation thus allowing the hydrogen cylinder to be replaced without interrupting electricity production. Finally, no minimum operating power is required.

Depending on the power requirements, communication boxes allow several GEH2® to be parallelized, for power ranging from 100kVA to 2MVA, and the GEH2® is also capable of connecting with diesel or gas generators, and even the grid. With its IP43 ingress protection and its integrated 230V plug for frost protection, it can operate in almost every corner of the world, from -5°C to +45°C with no derating.

With its Plug & Play approach, the GEH2® was developed with the aim of easily integrating into all industries and environments. Designed to meet environmental challenges without sacrificing efficiency, it is suitable for all sites seeking or needing energy autonomy, both as a back-up solution, particularly for sensitive sites such as hospitals, airports, or data centers – or as the main energy source in isolated (scientific bases, islands, refuges, relay antennas, etc.) or confined sites (tunnels, mines, etc.). It can also be used to provide additional power for construction sites or events (concerts, sporting events, trade shows, etc.) or to access protected and regulated zero-emission zones. In case of grid failure, or simply when the grid does not exist, the GEH2® electro-hydrogen generator brings you the energy you need, without CO2 emissions or fine particles. In addition to its low noise pollution and the total absence of CO2 and fine particle emissions, the compact design of the GEH2®allows six stackable units to be transported in 40-foot containers and to be easily moved by forklift trucks or cranes. Companies like Europe’s largest equipment rental company LOXAM have already embraced the use of this new technology.

REXH2®, the on-board hydrogen power generator for emission-free cruising
The REXH2® (Range Extender Hydrogen) is an on-board power generator running exclusively on hydrogen, for propulsion and / or hotel load onboard clean and silent boats, adaptable and tailor-made according to the use profile and configuration of the vessels. With a footprint of barely two cubic meters and a weight of 630 kilos, the REXH2® comes equipped with the latest generation of Toyota fuel cell and is today, in relation to the power delivered, the most compact and efficient range extender on the market.

The R&D carried out by the EODev teams has made it possible to adapt to the extreme conditions of the marine environment perfectly, to reach powers of 70 kW per unit, up to 1 MW when the modules are stacked. It is this flexibility in the implementation that makes the REXH2® the ideal vector for tailor-made hydrogen solutions for propulsion and the supply of carbon-free energy at sea. It can be fitted into all types of boats, from cargo vessels to passenger shuttles to barges to professional boats and small and large pleasure vessels.

Compared to petrol or diesel, the REXH2® provides an obvious environmental benefit since it only emits water and heat, like the GEH2®. There is no release of pollutants into the atmosphere or into the water; and the REXH2® also does not make much noise, pollution that is known to be especially damaging for marine species and their communication.

EODev solutions — Smart and connected power generators
Both the GEH2® and REXH2® obviously offer many advantages over equivalent diesel units. Running exclusively on hydrogen and their fuel cell, having no moving parts, the GEH2® and REXH2® have a much longer life span than diesel generators — thanks also to their design and predictive maintenance. The management of the entire system is ensured by an automated Power Management System specifically developed by EODev. In addition, as they are connected and monitored remotely, their on-board intelligence informs you if the hydrogen level is low or if a maintenance operation is required. If requested, it can even warn AKA/EODev technicians directly. Its 4G connection allows continuous online monitoring via the Cloud (location, usage profile, hydrogen reserve status, etc.). This means that control and data acquisition are always at the operator’s fingertips.

In short, thanks to AKA and EODev’s GEH2® and REXH2®, tomorrow’s solutions for carbon-free power generation in North America are already available today.
