Oscar Fingal O’Flahertie Wills Wilde was born in Dublin on October 16, 1854. He died in Paris on November 30, 1900. He was an Irish poet, novelist, playwright and classical philologist. A representative of modernist aestheticism.
Oscar Wilde’s mother was the poet Lady Jane Wilde. He undertook studies, amongst other places at Magdalen College in Oxford. The course of 1878 marks the first poetry prize awarded to him in his biography. However, the year 1882 was the time of his departure to the United States, where he had the opportunity to conduct a series of lectures. A few years later it was time for his emotional stabilization because it was then that Wilde married Constance Lloyd, who subsequently gave birth to two sons to the writer. He published his famous novel, The Portrait of Dorian Gray, in 1890 and also published many satirical comedies.
Oscar Wilde was considered effeminate, not only because of wearing long hair, but also because of his proclamation of aestheticism in art and, finally, due to the fact that he admitted his bisexual orientation.
In 1895, the writer was accused in Great Britain of homosexual acts – then prohibited in the UK – and arrested and sentenced to hard labor for two years. Wilde’s wife then left the country with the children, changing her name at the same time. a letter written by Oscar Wilde during his imprisonment in Reading jail. His prison work “De Profoundis” was not published until after the author’s death, and then only in a censored version. After his release, Wilde could not find himself again so easily, because he was suffering from financial and health problems.
He died in Paris on November 30, 1900, as a result of meningitis.
