Subject and Aims of the Agreement
This agreement sets forth the academic and administrative terms and
conditions for the implementation of a Double Master's Degree Program. based
on the General M.e morandum for Academic Cooperation and Exchange between
Kyoto University and Kasetsart University on February 28, 1984.
Programs
implemented under this Agreement 'Will aim to enhance the exchange of students
between Kasetsart University and Kyoto University (hereafter collectively referred
to as "Parties" and individually as "Party") by providing students with valuable
educational opportunities to obtain degrees from both universities.
Commitments and Responsibilities
Both Parties shall establish Organizing Committees as stipulated in the
appended Program . Descriptions to hnplement programs under· this agreement.
Each Party shall appoint Academic Coordinators from among its faculty members
and Administrative Coordinators from among its administrative staff.
The Organizing Committees shall perform the following functions.
a) Program supervision, including quality assurance of the program
b) Monitoring and evaluation of students' achievements and proges~
mcluding student feedback
c) Record keeping
Programs
Students enrolled in a Double Master's Degree Program under this Agreement
will study at both institutions according to the curriculum and mobility plan
defined in the Program Descriptions. Upon successful fulfillment of the program
and all degree requirements at each institution, the students from Kyoto. University
and from Kasetsart University may be granted academic degrees from both
institutions.
Subject to a mutual evaluation of the partner institution's standards for
accreditation by both Parties, credits earned from the host university will be
accepted as equivalent to those attained through courses offered by the home
university, and credits earned from the home university will be accepted as
equivalent to those attained through courses· offered by the host university.

Selection Procedure
Both institutions guarantee that their candidates selected for a Double
Master's Degree Program will be deemed to be of an appropriate caliber and
will possess appropriate academic and linguistic qualifications. Only students who
have enrolled in a master's program at their home institution will be eligible
to enroll in a Double Master's Degree Program.
Applications are evaluated first
by the home institution and then presented to the partner institution for .reviev.r
and approval.
To be admitted to a Double Master's Degree Program.J students
must meet all relevant admission policies at both institutions.
Number of Students to be ~chan

The maximum number of Double Master's De~
students to be exchanged
is five per year for each institution. As a general rule, the Parties will endeavor
to exchange the same number of students in both dfrections. In case of imbalance
in the number of exchanges, the Parties shall endeavor a joint effort, details

which shall be discussed amicably by the Parties.
Status of Participating Students
Students enrolled in a Double Master's Degree Program will be enrolled
at both institutions, and will be entil~
to the facilities and services offered
by both institutions.
Students will be subject to all relevant regulations, codes
of practice and procedures at both instuo~
and will confirm their agreement
to abide by those terms upon registration at each institution.
Degree Requirements
Students enrolled in a Double Master's Degree Program are expected to
complete all required coursework, research projects, written theses, and any
other work necessary. to satisfy the requirements of their master's program at
both Kasetsart University and Kyoto University,
Students who complete the
requirements will be awarded degrees separately by both universities, in accordance
with the relevant regulations in force in each country, and based on the
conditions established by the two parties for students of the Double Master's
Degree Program.
Both Parties will provide each oiher with all relevant official
documents related to academic regulations. If any change occurs in the .regulations
which affects the Double Master's Degree Program and/ or the participa't;ing
students, both Parties are obliged to notify the partner institution ·in writing
as soon ·as possible and make the necessary amendments to this Agreement. If
any issue should arise from said changes, both parties will endeavour to seek a
congenial resolution.
Academic Guidance
The host institution shall assign an appropriate academic advisor to each
exchange student.
The appointed advisor will be discussed and mutually agreed
-3upon by both Parties prior to the student's arrival at the host institution.
Academic advisors from both the home and host institutions are expected .to work
in collaboration to provide academic guidance and advice to the student.
The
advisor at the host institution shall be required to make periodic reports on the
student's academic and research progress to the advisor at the home institution.
Curriculum and Credits
Both universities will provide an appropriate educational curriculum for
students exchanged under this agreement. The curriculum must provide students
with adequate learning opportunities and the academic credits necessary for
the completion of the Double Master~
Degree Program. The curriculum and .credits
of an individual Double Master's Degree Program and its degree requirements
are described in detail in the program description for each individual program.
Thesis and Oral Examination
Students are required to submit a different thesis to each university.
The requirements for each master's thesis and oral examination 'Will. be set
according to the rules and regulations of each institution. The conditions regarding
thesis submissior{ and assessment are 'specified in the program descriptions.
Intellectual Property Rights
The two Parties agree that, in the event of research pollaboration leading
to patent rights, copyrights or other intellectual property rights, further · written
agreement(s) shall be negotiated in each case in accordance with the policies of
the two parties on intellectual property.
Conferral of Degree
Upon successful completion of the Double Master's Degree Program, students
who meet the graduation requirements will be conferred a Master~
Degree from
Ka.setsart University and a Master's Degree from Kyoto University.
Tuition and Fees
Each student will pay the required tuition and other- fees to their home
institution for the duration of their study. This Double Master's Degree Program
constitutes a student exchange program, and so tuitiont admission, examination,
and registration fees at the host institution are waived.
Insurance Obligations
Students are required to obtain appropriate health insurance and other
necessary insurance plans.
Prior to the students' arrival each institution v..ill
provide appropriate information to students regarding their registration in the
national health system or the provision of other kinds of health insurance \vhich
may be required.

Student Services and Support
The services provided to exchange students by the host university should
be the same as those provided to its regular students. In addition to its regular
student services, each partner undertakes to provide additional · services for
exchange students, including assistance with obtaining residence permits~
assistance with finding accommodation, courses in the local language, and activities
to facilitate social integration.
Risk Management
Both Parties shall cooperate to ensure effective risk management of students
and staff involved in the Double Master's Degree Programs.
Amendment, Renewal, or Termination o£ this Agreement
This Ag:J:"eement will remain effective for five {5) years after the date of
signing by both Parties.
Amendments in connection with any terms in this
Agreement shall be made as necessary upon mutual consultation and consent
by both Parties..
The partner .institution must be notified at least six months
in advance of any intention to renew or terminate this Agreement. In the event
that an agreement regarding any such amendment, renewal or termination
cannot be reached· in writing, a meeting may be requested by either Party to seek
remediation.
Additional Documents
Any matter not stipulated herein, regarding the terms of this Agreement
shall require accord between both Parties, and shall b~
documented in ~e
Program Descriptions.
Other written materials related to the Double Master's
Degree Programs shall be shared, aclmowledged, and preserved by both Parties.
Authenticity .
The English language version of this Agreement is the authentic version,
having been signed by the President of Kasetsart University and the President
of Kyoto .University. An authentic copy shall be retained by each institution.

Aims of the Program Description
This document shall defme the details of the following program based on the Agreement
to Establish a Double Master's Degree Program between Kasetsart University and
Kyoto University.

AUN-KU Student Mobility Program toward Human Security Development (Kasetsart
University and Kyoto University)
2.
Aims of the Program
This program seeks to foster collaborative study and research, and to develop human
resources capable to effectively address issues that have regional and global
implications, such as global warming and large·scale disasters in Asia. As set forth in
this agreement, students who successfully complete approved summer school sessions
or course work overseas at the partner university will gain transfer credit and earn two
master's degrees in two different fields, one from Kasetsart University and one from
Kyoto University.
3.
Organizing Committee
1) Both parties will establish an Organizing Committee to oversee implementation of

Description of Degrees
Kasetsart University and Kyoto University shall each select different but related
academic fields, and each university will confer a master's degree upon students who
meet the requirements prescribed in this agreement.

5.
Duration of Program and Overseas Study
1) The duration of the program shall be three years for each participating student.
2) Each student shall participate in.a summer school at the partner university during
the first year of the student•s program of study.
3) Each student shall study at the partner university for one academic year (two regular
semesters) during the second or the third year of the student's program of study.
Curriculum far Students of Kyoto University
6.
The Double Master's Degree program will require at least three years, including a
minimum period of one year of study (two regular semesters) at Kasetsarl University.
The study curriculum for students of the Double Master's Degree program to obtain a

master s degree from Kyoto University and a master's degree from Kasetsart University
are as follows:

Students of Kyoto University must be enrolled in a master's program in the Graduate
School of Agriculture of Kyoto University. To obtain a· master's degree from Kyoto
University, students are required to meet the degree requirements of the Graduate
School of Agriculture. The specific components of the curriculum are as folws~

Up to 10 credits earned at Kasetsart University will be accepted as transfer credits
toward the completion of the master's degree at Kyoto University.

'Ib obtain a master_'s degree from Kasetsart University, students from Kyoto University
are required to meet the following general conditions:

The student must be enrolled in a master's program in one of the specific master's
degree described in item 4 at Kasetsart Universt~,

The student must complete credit requirements according to the chosen program at
Kasetsart University.
•
Up to 50% of the credits earned at Kyoto University will be accepted as transfer
credit towards completion of the master's degree at Kasetsart Umversity.
•
Thesis credit may not be transferred.
•
A comprehensive oral examination may be required in certain programs.
•
The student. must submit a master's thesis to Kasetsart University that is different
from the thesis submitted to Kyoto University, and must pass the final oral
examination as set by Kasetsart University.
The study plan for each student will be described in his/her Learning Agreement.
7.
Curriculum for Students ofKasetsart University
The Double Master's Degree program will require at least three years of study,
including a minimum period of one year (two regular semesters) of study at Kyoto
University. The study curriculum for students of the Double I\1:aster's Degree program
to obtain a master 7s degree from Kasetsart University and a master's degree from Kyoto
University are as follows:
Students of Kasetsart University must be enrolled in a master's program in one of the
specified programs described at item 4 at Kasetsart University. To obtain a master's
degree at Kasetsart University, students are required to complete the requirements of
the chosen program in which they are enrolled. The specific components of the
Cl?riculum are as follows:

The student must complete at least 36 credits of course work at Kasetsart
University. Transfer credits earned at Kyoto University will count toward this 36
cre~it
•
requirement.
Up to 50% of the credits earned at Kyoto University will be accepted as transfer
credit towards completion of the masterfs degree at Kasetsart University.
•
A comprehensive oral examination may be required in certain programs. ·
•
A master's thesis which is written and submitted according to Kasetsart
University's regulations

A final oral examination which is conducted according to Kasetsart University's

To obtain a master's degree from Kyoto University, students from Kasetsart University
are required to meet the following general conditions:

The student must be enrolled in a master's program in the Graduate School of
Agriculture at Kyoto University.
•
The student must complete at least 30 credits of course work at Kyoto University.
Transfer credits earned at Kasetsart will count toward this 30 credit requirement.
•
Up to 10 credits earned at Kasetsait University will be accepted as transfer credits
toward the completion of the master's degree at Kyoto University.
•
The student must submit a mastees thesis to Kyoto University that is different
from the thesi·s submitted to Kasetsart University, and must pass the finai oral
examination as set by Kyoto University.
The study plan for each student will be described in his/her Learning Agreement.
8.
Learning Agre~nt
Each student will propose an individual study plan made according to the agreed
curi~lm
for the total duration of the program. A Learning Agreement based on the
study plan will then be drawn up and signed by the Academic Coordinators of the two
institutions and the student prior to the student's arrival at the host institution. The
Learning Agreement may be revised at any time upon written approval by the Academic
Coordinators of the two institutions.
9.
Student Selection Procedures
Both parties shall select students of appropriate ability and academic standard to
participate in this program. Students selected for the program must fulfill the following
requirements:
1) A relevant undergraduate specialization
2) Demonstrate appropriate English language ability
3) An appropriate academic performance record
4) Recommendation letters
5) Entrance examination or the equivalent
10.
Thesis and Oral Examination
In principle, students participating in the double degree program must write two
master's theses in English. Under exceptional circumstances and with special approval
from the relevant graduate school, a student may write their theses in a language other
than English. In such a case, the candidate is required to submit an abstract written in
English. A different thesis must be submitted to each university. The fmal oral
examinations should be conducted in English by each university. The examination
committee for the final oral examination will be composed according to regulations set
by each university. However, both institutions must consider the nature of this
collaborative agreement when determining the composition of their committee. The
degrees will be conferred based upon the regulations governing each institution
respectively.
11.
Examination Committee
Both parties shall appoint full-time faculty members as members of the Examination
Committee and provide the details of their qualifications and credentials to the partner
university. The number of faculty members to be appointed at each institution is
indicated below. Each party shall inform the other without delay of any changes in the
committee membership.
