Ultra low print run of this lavishly illustrated collection of art nouveau designs, or more specifically, Jugendstil ("Youth Style"). A Secession classic of the early twentieth century in central and eastern Europe. Large 9 7/8" x 12" design. Stated at copyright: "Nyomatott Horny Anszky Viktor, Csaszari es Kiralyi Udvari, Konyvnyomdaiaban Budapesten, 1911", or in translation, Printed by Viktor Horny Anszky, Csaszari and Kiralyi Udvari, Konyvnyomdaia in Budapest, 1911. Published in the original Hungarian and graced with rich dramatic near illuminated designs throughout. Dark green cloth boards, large circular intricate gilt design with gilt titles in square at center, smooth embossed green spine titles on gilt relief, moderate shelf wear, rub, toning. Large initials at back boards: "PN". Bright, shining, gilded endpapers with intricate design of white and blue angel holding child among starry sky and clouds. Pages very good and complete. Many examples of this collection have been split for individual illustrations. Small name signed at half-title page: "Nemeth". Bind good, intact. Wonderfully illustrated edition of fairy stories is full of resplendent Art Nouveau designs. Features a dozen full-page color plates of Lefler and Urban`s illustrations from the Hans Andersen calendar of 1911 which was published in 1910. Presented here is classic Austrian art nouveau featuring the rich imagery and designs of Joseph Urban and his partner Heinrich Lefler. Each famous for their nouveau art work, posters and encouragement of the Hungarian secession. Also, full-page monochromatic designs from various Czech artists. Colored vignettes, headers, tailpieces and flourishing decoration throughout. Color plates of this quality, detail, and craftsmanship are no longer produced. 132 pages. Insured post.
