Mean18 Golf for Mac

January 2, 2024
Chipped In

Just downloaded the Mean18 for Mac zip file containing it’s respective images. I’ve been playing it within the Mini vMac emulator on my MacBook (intel). Played multiple courses and saved some games in process. Ran it under System 4.3. No particular reason, it was there. Dragged System 4.3 dsk on to my mini vMac icon in the system tray, then same for Mean18.dsk. Off and running. It is strange to play it in black and white. I usually play on my IIGS, real IIGS and GSPort emulator on the same MacBook.

I also tried the Bootable dsk and it worked great.

Here are some pictures. There a little fuzzy. Link to page on Macintosh Garden is below.

HitchHiker 120 Portable SCSI Drive – Vintage Macs

December 9, 2020

This is an amazing little portable SCSI Drive for Vintage Macs. I bought this a few years ago because I’d not seen any. And I’ve not seen another HitchHiker Drive since.

You can chain other external SCSI Drives behind it.
This side plugs into the back of my Performa.

To use with an old PowerBook you need an external power supply. But the Performa supplies enough to use it without the external power supply.

Attached to the SCSI Port.
This is what it looks like on a PowerBook with power supply attached. This is the only picture on the Internet I could find other than my own.
Specs from an internal document picture on the drive itself. I can not find any documentation on the Internet.
Currently the Performa is booting from the HitchHiker. The OS is 7.5.3. you can see the internal Macintosh Drive is on the Desktop too.
System Software 7.5.3. Note I’ve also attached a SCSI Drive called FatBoy to it. FatBoy is a nice big 1 GB drive.
The Calendar Application running from an Alias on the Desktop to the FatBoy SCSI. Note, 7.5.3 did not like the year 2020.
Playing an old Missile Command.

Note: since it booted to 7.5.3 most of the more significant apps will not run given the Performa is 8.5.1.

This is a picture from a couple years ago when I could boot to the internal drive running 8.5.1 and the HitchHiker would appear on the desktop also. I have not been able to repeat that again…yet. Scroll down to see it working today. Haha.

HitchHiker Folders visible when booting to 8.5.1.
I’m assuming these are for SCSI ID setting.

Above is another photo found on Internet. A 160 version.

Finally got it to boot into 8.5.1 with HitchHiker on Desktop.

The 8.5.1 Desktop with main SCSI drive, the external SCSI drive, the Hitchhiker Drive, the internal CD-Rom drive with MacAddict 66 and a Floppy drive.

Mac Performa 6214CD

December 5, 2020

I’ve had this Performa around for 5 years or so. It was one of the early Vintage Macs I bought and started playing. I have multiple SCSI drives attached. External CD300 and CD600 cd-roms (on occasion). Plus a connection to my Apple Newton 120 (separate blog entries on the Newton).

Here it is connected to 2 external SCSI drives, a LCD VGA Monitor and a Stylewriter 1200 printer (not shown). There are other blog entries for the Stylewriter printer.

Fully booted. Three hard drives. Lots of Application shortcuts. VGA LCD.
Two of four SCSI Drives connected and running. See their green lights. Far left and far right.
In the more current pictures (like this one) I’m using the Kaleidoscope control Panel to emulate a NeXT desktop.
Listing on one SCSI.
Listing on 2nd SCSI.

I did not take a picture of boot scsi drive file listing.

If you’re looking for a great source of vintage Mac application images here is the place. http://macintoshgarden.org/

Much earlier picture with 2 MacAddict CD-Roms on desktop. One internal cd-rom, one external cd-rom. And of course, the 3.5” floppy drive.
Running lots of accessories.
Here is the generic image of the Performa 6214CD.

iMac G4 – 10.4.11 and 9.2 – Flower Pot (Lamp) with Apple II Emulators

February 21, 2020

This is my iMac G4 Flower Pot. I’ve had it for a few years now, and used it a lot. I didn’t realize I hadn’t written a blog entry until today.

Besides using it to run vintage Mac software, I also run Apple II emulators on it. Virtual II and Sweet16 both have versions which run on this earlier version of Mac OS X. Lots of links at bottom of this post. I also have a FireWire Drive attached running os9.2 with its apps and games too. See pics.

Here is a picture running “mini vMac“, Virtual II, AND Sweet16.

Here’s the startup Desktop. Date and time just updated. It has an Airport Card.

Here are the specs for the G4. I upgraded it to 768 MB shortly after I bought it. Pretty straight forward.

Here is the directory of mini vMac items. The mini vMac blog entry on this site has links to all kinds of disk configurations.

Booted up mini vMac. Have clock timer and TopCat clock in startup.

Here is the Virtual II Emulator. It’s a version 6. See link below to directory to download it.

Although this early version can play movies the 800 MHz isn’t powerful enough.

SheepShaver Emulator- MacOS 9 on MacBook Pro [March 2019 update]

March 21, 2019

SheepShaver – The following archive.org link is to a fully operational preconfigured OS9 version that runs on Intel Macs. This COI ChubbyBunny version is complete, ready to run. The rom and all the hard drives on the screen are included. The instructions are pretty easy. I’ve posted some screen snaps below to illustrate some Setup pieces. Links to this material keep changing. So, don’t give up. The 1st link has various versions up through Feb 2019 and Mojave.

The picture below is CalrisWorks 4 with the text I imported from a text file I saved from AppleWorks [ you actually have to print the AppleWorks file to text, there is no save as text option ] on my Virtual IIe Emulator. The first paragraph tells you how I did it. The beginning text is all related to Beagle Brothers SuperFonts in AppleWorks.

Below is a conversation on the FaceBook forum after an issue with it when I upgraded to Sierra on my MacBook Pro.

SheepShaver Emulator: I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Sierra and SheepShaver boots to OS9 just fine but as soon as I click in the window it crashes. Any thoughts?

Mini vMac – Emulator of early Macs

November 4, 2018

I’ve been running Mini vMac on my power pc iMac and my Intel Macs for awhile. Thought I’d post some thoughts.

https://www.gryphel.com/c/minivmac/index.html

https://www.gryphel.com/c/minivmac/dnld_std.html

https://sites.google.com/site/minivmacapplicationsv6/systems-os

https://sites.google.com/site/minivmacapplicationsv6/games

I’ve been able to copy all the files from a small HD drive to one of the larger drive images and boot that one. Picture below is a HD128 MB. Files came from a 20 MB. Following link has many image sizes.

https://sites.google.com/site/minivmacapplicationsv6/disk-images-and-roms

https://sites.google.com/site/minivmacapplicationsv6/apps

The Mini vMac Boot v2 is version MacOS 7.5.5. But it comes on a 20MB image.

I downloaded the 192 MB image and copied the contents of the 20 MB to the 192 MB.

However, to get it to boot completely you need to rename the 192 MB image to Mini vMac Boot v2. Then you have lots of room to add all the Apps and Games.

Many games at following link.

Below is 20 MB image I took System Files and other files from for the HD128.

Above, startup without an image.

Below, running Clariworks 3.0.

Links Pro for MacOS iBook and Mac OS 8 or 9 – Golf

September 1, 2018

I’ve been playing LinksPro on my Performa 6214CD Mac (OS 8.50 for some time. That version is from 3.5″ disks. I just recently loaded, via a CD version, LinksPro on to my Clamshell iBook (OS 9.2.2). It runs great.

Here are some pictures. Plus some peculiarities I’ve run into. Here’s link to all courses for Links Pro and LinksLS plus games themselves.

http://macintoshgarden.org/games/links-pro

Added these 5 courses no problem. Each has it’s own installer.

Recently acquired the Firestone course. It came on 3.5″ disks and the iBook would not recognize the 2nd 3.5 Disk. I tried 3 different usb 3.5 external drives. None worked. However, there was no issue installing on my Performa 6214CD Mac running MacOS 8.5.

So, what I did was copy the installed Firestone course file and the Firestone Links Extra file from the Performa to 1.44 HD 3.5 disks. Then I copied these to the respective folders on the iBook. BINGO! Firestone now runs on my iBook.

New Battery for my Blue Clamshell iBook

August 21, 2018

Finally bought the replacement battery for my Blue iBook. I had one in my Tangerine iBook and it was doing well after a full year. (I use it very infrequently) The new battery is 5200 mAh versus the old 4400. When first charging, it took a good 15-20 minutes to get off 0%. But then it moved very nicely up to 100%. This iBook boots to either OS 10.3.9 or MacOS 9.2.2. Images for both are below..

Showing remaining time.

Following images are LinksPro Golf running macOS 9.2.2 on the same iBook.
