“Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon will direct an adaptation of Delia Ephron‘s “Siracusa” for Working Title, sources confirmed to Variety.
Working Title acquired the rights the book, which Ephron will adapt for the screen.
Working Title’s Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan and Liza Chasin will produce. Ephron will serve as exec producer.
Ephron’s story follows two couples and a child who take a vacation on the sun-drenched coast of the Ionian Sea in Italy.
Penguin Books imprint Blue Rider Press will publish the novel in July.
Gomez-Rejon has attracted the attention of studio execs following the critical success of last year’s Sundance pic “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl.” Some of the films he has attached himself to in the past year include “The Current War,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Jake Gyllenhaal, and “A Foreigner,” starring Oscar Isaac. He is repped by WME and LBI Entertainment.
This will mark the first book from Delia Ephron, sister of the late Nora Ephron, that will be adapted since 2000’s “Hanging Up.” She most recently penned “Bewitched.” She is repped by Authentic and CAA.
