Legends of Tomorrow fans, do we have a casting for you.
Brandon Routh, who played Ray Palmer aka The Atom in the dearly departed CW series, is dropping by Quantum Leap. He is set to guest-star as Commander Alexander Augustine (who is Addison’s father) in an upcoming episode, IGN reports.
The installment, titled “SOS” and set during war games in 1989, will air Monday, Feb. 27, at 10/9c on NBC. The network also released photos of Routh in character, which you can check out below.
“Growing up watching Quantum Leap, it was an honor to portray such a pivotal character in Addison’s life!” Routh said in a statement. “Ray [Lee] and Caitlin [Bassett] are a fantastic duo and I loved being a part of the QL team. As an Iowan, it was also exciting to film on the USS Iowa!”
Series lead Raymond Lee previously teased what to expect in the hour during the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour.
“We may see Addison have some closure with her father in a series of different ways,” Lee told TVLine. “It’s a great dynamic because I’m directly under his command the entire episode. There are times when he is the father-in-law character to me. There is that energy, and we like to lean into that.”
The episode was “very cinematically shot,” according to Lee. “We’ve got a lot of drone coverage in that. Being on an active battleship is also just gorgeous to see.”
Set 30 years after Sam Beckett (played in the original series by Scott Bakula) vanished in the Quantum Leap accelerator, the NBC continuation follows a new team assembled to restart the project. Everything changed, though, when Ben (played by Lee) made an unauthorized leap into the past, leaving his team behind to solve the mystery of why he did it.
In addition to Legends of Tomorrow, Routh has appeared as The Atom in fellow Arrowverse shows The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl and Batwoman. Other TV credits for the actor include The Rookie, Black-ish, Chuck and One Life to Live. He also played the Man of Steel on the big screen in the 2006 film Superman Returns.

Having Brandon Routh show up is always a big plus
He’s only 43, and she just turned 33 – are they going to significantly age him up???
He is leaping into the past so I would assume this is not present time. Based on the getting closure comment he is probably dead in their present
I am sure it means, they are going back into the past. Maybe he’s dead now. And Ben jumps into someone close to Addison’s father. And because Addison is always around… Because yeah, they would have to significantly age him up otherwise.
In the pictures posted above, he certainly doesn’t look old enough to have a daughter that age, but the time-travel element definitely changes everything
As it says at the top of the article, the bits with Addison’s father take place in 1989, so it’s in the past, so no aging-up required.
whoops – missed that bit !
Excellent casting, they both have the same chin!
I’ve been watching the weekend late-night reruns of “The Rookie,” and they just replayed the arc in which Routh guest-starred as a bad cop. Given his other roles, it’s amazing how effective and realistic he was playing a bad guy.
Scott Bakula once played a bad guy in a episode of Law and Order(SVU)
If the timing is right, someone could be trying to kill her father before she is even born. Then it’s no longer about trying to kill her, it’s about making sure she never existed. Possibly because she was supposed to be the original leaper and someone is trying to ruin Project Quantum Leap.
Yeah and this episode though does get us to the answer of how is Ben going to save her and here is a leap that involves her father in law and I wonder if they got a Superman reference in like they did on the dc shows with the alien invasion crossover and also Armageddon and also crisis
Logical,enough.We will see.
Whenever I see a headline about being added to the cast, I always feel the article must mean for at least a recurring role. A headline like “Quantum Leap to Feature Legends of Tomorrow’s Brandon Routh in Guest Role – Find Out Who He’ll Play” makes much more sense to me, because he’s not really being added to the cast. Sure, the cast of the episode, but the phrase “add” just makes me think they are being added for something more.
Anyone else think it’s funny to have Brandon Routh guest star on Quantum Leap years after he killed Scott Bakula on Chuck?
He also played Superman in the Arrowverse. May have lasted only one episode, but darn it, it counted!
Am glad, that they will introduce Augustine Addison,s father. However, what ever happened to Al other 3 daughters? We only see Janice.
Yes very excited to see Brandon in Quantum Leap!!! He’s a great actor and well known and liked in the SciFi group.
I like this show and I like Brandon so it’s a double treat. That man is so hot.
Yes and Yes! He’s very attractive.
Brandon is a great performer however I feel he is underrated. Great to see another opportunity for him to shine. Really looking forward to his appearance on the Quantum Leap reboot.
