  4. In the left navigation pane, click TCP/IP Settings, and then click the Network Identification tab.

  5. Scroll down to the Bonjour section, and in the Bonjour Service Name text field, type a new name for the printer.

    Note:

Bonjour is used by phones and tablets to identify the printer. To change the printer name, you will need to change the Bonjour Service Name.

  6. Click Apply to save the changes.

  7. Repeat these steps for each network IP address (if multiple network interfaces are in use).

Configure general network settings for the printer

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to configure general network settings for the printer that are common to all network instances.

Note:

These general printer settings are common to all network interfaces. If the printer has multiple networks configured, these settings will apply to all HP Jetdirect network instances and you do not need to configure the individual IP addresses, unless otherwise indicated.

  1. On your computer, open a Web browser, and in the address bar, type the Jetdirect IP address or host name.

    • Configuration

      Note:

You can also enable or disable WPA (WiFi Protected Access) and set a password using the printer control panel. See the Method two: Enable wireless printing from the printer control panel section further up in this document.

      • Wireless Station Security settings > Wireless Wizard > WPA (WiFi Protected Access)

        Note:

HP printers with two or more network interfaces cannot bridge, route, or switch data.

        • WPA: This is the most common type of wireless network security. A single passphrase is used by all users to connect to the wireless network.

        • WPA – Enterprise (802.1x): This option provides more advanced network security. Each device connecting to the wireless network requires a unique username and password. Network administrators must set up a username and password specific to that printer and install a CA-signed certificate on the printer.

      • Wireless Direct settings

        Note:

Wireless Direct printing is not supported using an HP Jetdirect 2900nw, but the feature can be used if another supported print server (embedded or the Jetdirect 3000w NFC/accessory) is also installed on the same printer. If a supported print server is not installed, this option will not be available in the EWS. If a supported print server is installed, you can also configure the Wireless Direct Name using the printer control panel.

      • Other Settings

        Note:

The Default network for outbound connections setting is the only Other Setting that is common to all network instances. All Other Settings will need to be configured for each HP Jetdirect network. See the Configure network-specific settings section further down in this document.

        • Default network for outbound connections (check box under Enabled features)

      • TCP/IP Settings

        • Syslog settings (TCP/IP Settings > Advanced tab)

          Note:

The Syslog settings are the only TCP/IP Settings that are common to all network instances. All other TCP/IP settings will need to be configured for each HP Jetdirect network. See the Configure network-specific settings section further down in this document.

    • Security

      • Mgmt protocols

        • Enable FIPS-140 (check box under FIPS Configuration)

          Note:

The FIPS-140 setting is the only Mgmt protocol that is common to all network instances. All other Mgmt protocol settings will need to be configured for each HP Jetdirect network. See the Configure network-specific settings section further down in this document.

  5. Click the HP Web Services tab, configure general HP ePrint settings, and then click Apply to save the settings.

Configure network-specific settings

Each HP Jetdirect network connection has a specific instance. Each HP Jetdirect instance has a separate IP address that is isolated to prevent the crossover of data from transferring network traffic between the interfaces (commonly referred to as "bridging" or "routing"). That means it is impossible for an HP printer with two or more network interfaces to bridge, route, or switch data, and therefore, each individual network instance must be configured separately.

Note:

When more than one HP Jetdirect print server or accessory is installed, you will see multiples instances of the HP Jetdirect network interfaces listed on the printer control panel and the configuration page.

To configure each network instance, you can use the printer control panel or the Embedded Web Server (EWS) (using the HP Jetdirect IP addresses specific to each network instance).

Choose your preferred method below and then follow the steps provided.
