Where Are Casey Anthony's Parents Now? They’re ‘Still Angry A Lot Of The Time’
A&E/Lifestime

In 2011, they experienced a level of family trauma few endure when their daughter was charged with the murder of her daughter (their grandchild), Caylee Anthony. In a new A&E and Lifetime documentary series, we’ll learn where Casey Anthony’s parents are now and get answers to lingering questions about George’s involvement in their two-year-old granddaughter Caylee’s death.

George and Cindy Anthony lived with their daughter, Casey, in Orlando, and her daughter Caylee. On July 15, 2008, Cindy made three calls to 911 reporting the toddler missing; Cindy claimed she hadn’t seen Caylee in 31 days. “I called a little bit ago, the deputy sheriff. I found out my granddaughter has been taken. She has been missing for a month. Her mother finally admitted that she`s been missing,” she told operators.

“[Apparently] the babysitter took her a month ago, that my daughter’s been looking for her. I told you my daughter was missing for a month. I just found her today, but I can`t find my granddaughter. And she just admitted to me that she`s been trying to find her herself. … There’s something wrong. I found my daughter`s car today, and it smells like there’s been a dead body in the damn car! I have not seen her since 7th of June.”

Casey later called the police and falsely told a police dispatcher that Caylee had been kidnapped by a nanny on June 9. Casey was charged with first-degree murder in October and on December 11, 2008, Caylee’s skeletal remains were found with a blanket inside a laundry bag in a wooded area near the Anthony family’s house. So many things about this case just didn’t add up and on July 5, 2011, a jury found Casey not guilty of counts one through three regarding first-degree murder. Now, Casey Anthony’s parents are the subject of public scrutiny once more as George takes on a polygraph test in Casey Anthony’s Parents: The Lie Detector Test.

Where are Casey Anthony’s parents now?

Where are Casey Anthony’s parents now? George and Cindy Anthony are still together and they still reside in Florida. For obvious reasons, they maintain resentment towards their daughter for the death of their grandchild. “[Cindy] is still angry a lot of the time,” a family insider told People in 2022. “This was a loving grandmother who had to withstand family trauma that no one should ever have to deal with. So when she starts talking about Casey and Caylee, she gets really upset, even now.”

The source continued. “At first, Cindy wanted answers. She wanted to know what had happened, why this had happened. She wanted Casey to explain the hell she put everyone through. Now she realizes that there’s no point asking Casey anything because she is never going to get any straight answers. So what’s the point?”

Cindy isn’t sure what to believe when it comes to her daughter’s involvement in Caylee’s death. “That’s a tough question. Sometimes she wavers. George is steadfast that she did something wrong, but with Cindy, it’s a big question mark. Mostly, she’s just sad about the way things turned out.”

In a clip for Casey Anthonys Parents: The Lie Detector Test, provided to StyleCaster, George is asked if he “knowingly concealed Caylee’s whereabouts”, to which after a pause he replies: “No.” The polygraph examiner observed, “Ok, so you’re struggling with that one a little bit. Tell me why.” Cindy is shown to be watching behind a one-way mirror.

“Maybe it’s because it was so close to our house, where she was found. … I’m just visualizing the woods where she was found.” George continues to “struggle” with answering the question of whether he knew where Caylee was while the police searched for her.

In court, Casey alleged that her father sexually abused her as a child and that he was the one who disposed of Caylee’s body. He has never been charged of such things. In Casey Anthony: Where The Truth Lies, a three-part limited series on Peacock, she doubled down on these claims. “He’s outraged and appalled,” an insider told People at the time. “It wasn’t true in 2011, and it’s not true now. He denies it all and will continue to deny it all until his final breath. George is keeping a pretty strong exterior, but this tears him up. He still loves his daughter, and he loved his granddaughter. So this is beyond difficult for him.”

In the series, Casey Anthony gave her version of what happened on June 16, 2008, when Caylee was last seen. “I wasn’t feeling that great, and I wanted to lay down,” she said. “I had her lay in bed with me. I was awoken by [my father] shaking me and asking me where Caylee was,” she continued. “That didn’t make sense. She would never even leave my room without telling me. I immediately started looking around the house. I go outside and I’m looking to see where she could be.”

Casey says she then saw George Anthony holding her daughter. “He was standing there with her,” she continued. “She was soaking wet. He handed her to me. Said it was my fault. That I caused it. But he didn’t rush to call 911 and he wasn’t trying to resuscitate her. I collapsed with her in my arms. She was heavy, and she was cold. He takes her from me and he immediately softens his tone and says ‘It’s going to be ok.’ I wanted to believe him. He took her from me and he went away.”

She concluded: “During the 31 days, I genuinely believed that Caylee was still alive. My father kept telling me she was ok. I had to keep following his instructions. He told me what to do. I tried to act as normal as I could.”

Casey Anthony’s Parents: The Lie Detector Test will premiere on A&E and Lifetime on January 4 at 9pm ET.
