What a vibe.

The titular mission can be completed in just an hour, but there are plenty of side operations and challenges to unlock that will extend your playtime. This isn't just a prologue to The Phantom Pain; MGSV:GZ is arguably superior to the very full-length entry it sets up due to its atmosphere.

The American black site in Cuba, Camp Omega, is a painstakingly crafted stealth-action sandbox. There are sandboxes like this littered throughout The Phantom Pain, but Camp Omega feels special. You play as Snake, tasked with rescuing a prisoner. And... that's it. It's up to you to make note of guard routes, find out where the prisoner is being held, collect intel, perhaps rescue non-critical prisoners, etc. It's peak Metal Gear.

Bolstered by gorgeous visuals that hold up incredibly well a decade later and impressive audio design; crawling behind boilers in a dimly lit military compound as the grates above are pelted by heavy rain is an incredible experience. You can be a trigger-happy war criminal or a ghost. Few things feel as rewarding as extracting all targets and acquiring all intel without ever being seen or heard.

don't make the same mistake i did, go and play/watch the other MGS games but you HAVE TO PLAY PEACEWALKER BEFORE PLAYING GZ & TPP. without doing so this game is pointless.

You know, I'm sure this is actually a good game. I'm sure it's a great game. However, for David Hayter not voicing Snake, on that basis alone I can't recommend this. Call me a Hayter, I don't even care bro. The man has been pivotal to the development and mood of Snake throughout the series.

I honestly have been trying to play through this game for years. YEARS. And I can't, because every time I hear Kiefer Sutherland's voice come out of Snake, my brain punches the inside of my skull and screams "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!! NO! NO! NO! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" That ♥♥♥♥ hurts hella bad, in more ways than one! One day I'll maybe get over it and get to enjoy the game for what it is. Maybe. I mean it's been out for a decade and I still can't. Maybe in another decade.

Sigh. I wish there was an option to choose voice actors, like how Postal 4 did it (get literally every voice actor in every iteration of the game or movie to voice the main char).
