Acorn Computing Magazine (formerly The Micro User)

Post by fuzzel »

Does anyone know where I can get pdfs or individual pages from Acorn Computing Magazine ?
I've been reading the excellent Mad Hatter columns in The Micro User and noticed he continued writing for ACM.
I've read a few from the following webpage but there are a good few missing:
http://8bs.com/tmucovers.htm
I've also discovered this website:
http://www.acornelectron.co.uk/mags/ac/top_lvl.html
but when you click on an issue it displays individual pages whose links are broken.

I've also read Pendragon and Merlin's columns in The Electron User. Does anyone know if there was an adventures column in Acorn User ? I've looked at the odd issue but can't find one.

There are a few Micro Users here -- don't know if they include any of the ones you're missing though:
Bob Redrup ("The Mad Hatter") wrote this book about text adventures, The Adventure Gamer's Manual, which is very good:

Yep, unfortunately you now have to buy the DVD(s) if you want to see the scans that used to be on that site.

Not sure. Don't think so. But see this issue:

Thanks for that. I've downloaded the Mad Hatter's guide which looks like being a good read. I really enjoyed his monthly column in The Micro User. I also see there's an excellent tribute website to him by his son (although it's not quite up to date hint,hint....).
I've also downloaded the Acorn User text adventure issue you mentioned and there are some great articles in there by among others the writers of the Level 9 games and the Topologika Doom trilogy.
I did find one Micro User issue I didn't have so I've downloaded that one but unfortunately it was a pretty short list comprising mostly early issues which I have hard copies of anyway (I have a collection in the loft from issue 3 to 1990 when I started to lose interest as it focused more and more on the Archimedes).
