Among the many ancient squares in Milan, La Scala is very young. It is located in the center of Milan and its name comes from the famous La Scala Opera House on the northwest side of the square. In the center of the square stands a sculpture of Leonardo da Vinci, to the southeast is the Palazzo Marino, the city hall of Milan, and to the northeast is the Bank of Italy. Most of the buildings on the square were designed by architect Luca Beltrami.
