A free DLC update for Ultra Street Fighter IV will add a new mode remixing the move-sets of all 44 characters later this year.

Capcom announced the all-new Omega Mode for the popular 2D fighting game in a blog post. The mode modifies every character’s normal and special attacks to give a refreshing take on the six-year-old fighting game.

“As the primary goal for this mode was fun, we placed more emphasis on making the characters feel new, than on their balance,” Capcom said in the blog post. “This means that strong, fan favorite attacks such as Ken’s Shinppu Jinrai Kyaku and Sagat’s Tiger Raid make their return while other characters such as Zangief gain new abilities, like being able to combo into his command throws.”

Capcom community manager Peter “Combofiend” Rosas posted a video detailing some of the changes made to Chun-Li, Dhalsim, Guile and Ken.

Omega Mode will be playable online, but only in unranked matches. This mode will not be playable in official Capcom tournaments and the Capcom Pro Tour as they will continue to use the standard Ultra balance settings.

Capcom also revealed new details on the 1.04 patch to be released in October. As is the case with all major game updates, characters will be tuned for balance. Additionally, delayed wake-ups have been added as a dummy option in training mode –– and, more importantly, Capcom is addressing connectivity issues with PC players.

Omega Mode is not included with the October 1.04 update but is expected to be released by the end of the year. Capcom will disclose more details on the update as its release date approaches.
